As mentioned in my previous post, the impressive Bamboo Tunnel is located in front of Wat Chulabhorn Wanaram which is one of the beautiful temples in Nakhon Nayok province.

Wat means temple

Chulabhorn is the name of the daughter of our beloved former King Bhumibol

Wana means forest

Ram imply to temple

Wat Chulabhorn Wanaram was built for the 50th anniversary of the daughter, Chulabhorn.

This temple is surrounded with a lot of trees, including a bamboo tunnel that looks like a forest. That’s why it’s called “Wanaram” in the Thai language.

The bamboo tunnel ends up with Wat Chulabhorn Wanaram, as you can see the temple in the far distance.

Before entering the temple, there is a magnificent sitting golden Buddha statue, named Phra Khanthararat.

It’s an ancient stone Buddha statue from the Dvaradi period, which is more than 1000 years old.

When looking back, you will see the fascinating bamboo tunnel that I just walked through…

Standing at the entrance, you will see another Buddha statue, named Phra Phairi Phinat. (Phra implies Buddha, Phairi means enemy, Phinat implies to destroy, Phra Phairi Phinat may mean Buddha that can destroy the enemy.)

Phra Phairi Phinat is one of the highlights of this temple. It’s magnificent, very huge and looks outstanding with the black color.

Next to Phra Phairi Phinat is another Buddha statue in white color.

There are nagas on the left and right side of the Buddha statue which look sacred.

Most people worship these Buddha statues with beautiful lanterns in various colors.

We also lit candles and incense or hit these little bells to pay respect to the Buddha statues as well.
