Arsenale di Venezia

in #travel8 days ago

The Arsenal in Venice is a large complex of shipyards and armouries with an area of 45-48 ha (depending on the source) surrounded by a 3 km long wall. Its origins date back to 1104 and it was the largest industrial complex in Europe before the Industrial Revolution. It was here that the merchant ships and warships that made Venice a power were built. The photos show a view of the main gate (Porta di Terra or Porta Magna), which was built between 1457 and 1460. It is one of the most interesting places to photograph in Venice.
