Exploring the Citadel in Cairo

In Cairo I decided to get up early in the morning to visit the well-known citadel which is located more outside the center and to get there, a trip to the east of the city must be made. The citadel was already built hundreds of years ago during 12th century and the goal was to build a stable fortress that would withstand attacks by the crusaders and because of the location on the Muqattam mountain it was perfect to have the whole environment in one view. It was inhabited over the centuries by different rulers of the country and it came again and again to the fact that things have been rebuilt to adapt the protection more and it was already considered as the most powerful military institution in the country which was to guarantee the protection of the government. For some centuries it was even the most important center of Egypt from a political point of view and was also considered from a symbolic point of view as a sign of strength and power, but it should later lose importance in the military context and be used more for administrative purposes..
