Year 1: A Glimpse at the Beginning

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Around this time last year I decided to quite everything. I bought a rucksack and a one way ticket! Just prior I hit the trifecta of crossroads and left my lover, my job, and uni. As my family would say I am not one to stand still in the parking lot of life (in fact I can't actually sit still in my current 9-5 job #ADHD). But 2017 has held the most exhilarating, spontaneous and eye opening experiences of my life- blessed, lucky, whatever the heck you wanna call it- here is a glimpse into Year 1.

I have a feeling you will never regret spending this last year adventuring and learning about who you are. Life is short, and you will always look back in regret to the things you always wanted to do, but were too afraid to try! Good luck and enjoy Year 2!

Yea I definitely agree.. it's hard and scary to take that first step but absolutely #noregrets here ;)

hahaha thats kinda what i did as well. lol except mine was like after college. and trust me i don't regret it one bit. i am actually getting ready to upload my intro video to :D hehe

Best of luck on everything!

It seems to be a common theme in and amongst backpackers isn't it! Everyone's giving up something- or rather trading in something! I'm looking forward to seeing your video too :) :)

Thanks! ill link it here in this comment when i post it.

Difficulties are the horses on which wise men ride onto victory so giving up has never been the best option am really glad @venturenan there's light at the end of the tunnel

Couldn't agree more @prettyprisca always look for the light and view the positives!

Very cool, what an interesting life. I have a couple questions for you if you don't mind! What did you do before you started this lifestyle? Did you save a lot of money before, or what do you do for work while you travel? Looks like an amazing time!!

Its interesting that's for sure! That's actually something that I get asked a lot! About 9 months before I left home I started saving profusely, I decided in September that I wanted to move to New Zealand for a working holiday visa and that I wanted to see SE Asia before that. So I worked full time during the day and did university courses in the evening- to say the least I was crazy busy! I was living at home before I left, I never went out or drank, and I tried to have the saving mindset of "how far could I get with this money in Asia rather then spending it here". The most expensive part of travelling is the flights, everything else is reasonable depending on where you go! During my 6 month stent in Asia I lived only in cheap hostels, and two of those months I was in Thailand working for accommodations and food! You do not need a ton of money to do it, you just need to have an open mind (let's just say you can't expect much when your paying $4 a night for a hostel!!!)

The first step is booking the flight- take a leap of faith- everything else will fall into place.

wow. amazing moment.
