One Last Walk in Georgetown
Hello again, my Steemit friends. I promise today will be my last post about George Town! Our last full day in the city we decided to walk a bit more around the city. One of the things I really love about George Town is the diversity of religions and cultures that all share the space of the city.
Our first stop of the day was the Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple. The temple was built in 1803 and is the oldest Buddhist temple in Penang.
The grounds of the temple are beautiful and are filled with figures and religous icons.
The Golden Pagoda Bell Tower is a newer addition to the compound. It has four storeys and you can climb to the top for a nice view.
Across the street from the Burmese Buddhist Temple is a Thai Buddhist Temple, Wat Chaiyamangkalaram.
It is home to the third longest reclining Buddah statue.
The grounds are also filled with many figures including many serpents and dragons.
Both temples are free to enter and explore. They are centrally located so easy to walk to. For me, it was a peaceful and educational way to end my time in George Town. After one week in this beautiful city it is time to move on. Find out where soon (or comment with your guess of where you think I might be headed).
Thanks as always for reading and commenting and upvoting.
Until next time,
Chantelle
