My trip to Italy. Venice #2.

in #travel8 years ago

It was our second day in Venice.

We woke up very early in the morning and went to the Market. First was the Market with fruit and vegetables. We have bought some delicious stuff.

Then fish market. It was very impressive. There I saw such creatures, wich I have not seen before in my life. Some of them were even alive and moving. I was like a kid in a zoo :)

And this is the most regular market visitors.

Very interesting detail! When we bought all this stuff and returned to our apartment, we made a breakfast of all this  mussels, clams and octopus. It was yummy. At that time there came the owner of this appartment and saw that we are sitting around the table with all this. And he asked our friend on the Italian if this all was left from our yesterday's evening. Our friend said, that it is our breakfast, but this man did not want to belive him :)  The thing is that in Italy they don`t have a tradition to have such breakfasts like we are. Just morning espresso :)

Boy with a frog - a statue made of white steel, which has been installed in a Grand Canal in front of the Basilica of Saint-Marc. Statue of contemporary American sculptor Charles Ray. This statue is 2 meters and 40 centimeters  height. And it was the main object of disputes between the authorities of the city and cultural society for a few weeks. In 2013 it was replaced by traditional Venetian cast-iron lantern, which occupied this place before.

Then we were walking around this amazing city, enjoying sights and perfect Italian Cuisine.

Of course we could not miss a tower.  This was a clock tower or Torre dell'orologio on Piazza San Marco.  We climbed to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, 2 towers in the city of Lucca, the Cathedral of Florence. Of course after this tower on Piazza San Marco seemed an easy cack to us, because in those towers, we climbed on foot, and in this tower there was an elevator :)
And of course tower offers a magnificent view of the Doge's Palace, the square and the whole magnificent Venice.

Then a short walk to the shops to buy mothers small gifts from Venice.

Crossing Grand Canal on the gondola.

I can say, that Venice is my favourite, no offence. May be its because my native city of Saint-Petersburg (Russia) sometimes  compared to Venice calling it The North Venice, because it was conceived so from the outset. The city is built on the river Neva, there are many embankments, canals and bridges. And it is very beautiful too.

Saint-Petersburg, Admiralty embankment

we even have drawbridges

In the evening we returned to Rome and then home. It was realy realy wonderful trip!

Hope that you enjoy my post :)

thank you @gringalicious Im very glad, that you like it :)
