Hitchhiking adventures in Italy - Pontremoli and the way back home #19

in #travel9 years ago (edited)

This is the last post of this travel blog series. It was hard to leave this beautiful country but this journey came to an end. After some hiking and hitching we arrived in Pontremoli. The last town I took photos of at this journey. Here you see me and Pinoccio. I am not shure who is a better bluffer.

This is the bridge that leads into the old part of the town.

It is guarded by two statues. This is the one I photographed close-up.

This is one of my favorite shots of the place. I love those colourful flowers and the little waterstream.

This was the view in the other direction. Pretty stunning as well, right?

We visited the dome of Pontremoli that is also known as the chapel "Santa Maria Del Popolo".

The gentle expression in this face is amazing to me. There is such a fragile grace to those solid (marple?) artworks. I wonder how long it takes an artist to create somethinng of such amazing beauty.

Here we go: the inside of the chapel! What a gorgeous place. I love this shade of mintgreen. It was very hard to capture it in the picture and actually the picture is quite bad eventhough I tried some editing to get back the original colours. It worked with the green but yyou can hardly see that some parts of the ceiling and the walls are coloured in a soft pastellpink that works perfectly with the mintish green.

A closer look at the heart of the church.

After enjoying all the details of lovely artwork in the chapel we continued our hike until we got picked up again. Our lift took us to another small town where we went into a little trattoria for dinner. We had some pasta and heard some other people there talking German. Since we had not so much time left until we needed to be back in Germany we asked them if they could give us a lift. And well, they took us all the way back to Germany, where it was a small step for us to get a ride that even took us to the village where my parents live.

So here are the last pictures I took when we had breaks while driving through the north of Italy to Switzerland and Austria. I hope you enjoy them.

This is where you can really see the difference in vegetation when you travel to the north. It really was a stunning journey.

Italy is a very beautiful country! I know that because I live on the border with Italy ;)
I just started on steemit and wrote my first post about Slovenia, very beautiful country also. But I will write a lot about my trips arround Europe, USA and other places, so if you are interested, you can follow me! I will follow you!

You have done a gorgeous travel post of my Country..
I've appreciated so much your quality to describe it.
I invite you to visit Rome, in particular the most ancient and secret Churches with rare beautiful bizantine mosaics and paintings. Near Rome, there is a beautiful beach in Sperlonga with a lot of history. There is a Tiberius museum house there.
Another great trip, near Siena, there are Montepulciano, Chianciano Terme, Montalcino, the best land of wine production.
Let you visit the "Cinque terre in Liguria"(Five Lands), beautiful landscapes. Check them.

I have already visited lots of places in Rome :) I loved the Vatican museum with all the great artpieces there. Especially the Laokoon group is one of my favorites. If you check my previous posts you can also see my posts about Siena and Cinque Terre.

Absolutely, I will check them.
Thanks for share it.
My invite is always open, you can reach me at email polycryptonews@gmail.com
