The church of the sanctuary of Our Lady of Las Lajas, in Ipiales (Nariño), is the most beautiful in the world. The recognition was made by the British newspaper 'The Telegraph', one of the most prestigious in Europe (2015), which produced a list of the 23 most beautiful churches on the planet. According to this newspaper, this temple even surpassed the famous Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, in Barcelona (Spain).

The sanctuary of Las Lajas, considered "the miracle of God over the abyss", is visited every year by 750,000 parishioners, mainly Colombians and Ecuadorians. For 'The Telegraph' its Gothic style is striking and it has been raised on a canyon, at a height of 100 meters above the Guáitara River, on the border with Ecuador (at 2,900 meters above sea level).

In 2007 it was chosen as one of the Seven Wonders of Colombia. Additionally, the publication for travelers Condé Nast Traveler chose it among the most beautiful places in South America to visit.
