Eater's Guide in Yogyakarta : Experience Mouthwatering Local Cuisine
This is your first time in Yogyakarta, you’ve known all the places to visit and the must-see but what about must eat?
Look no further than visiting House of Raminten. A mid-sized restaurant offering various selections of local and authentic Yogyakarta and Central Java cuisine. The place is one-of-a kind with friendly staff dressed in jarit, javanese garment. The restaurant ambient is also something to look forward to. Furnished with wooden-traditional floor surrounded with aromatic smell of offerings, it offers a magical dining experience.
How Does The Restaurant Look Like?
Raminten is instagrammable, meaning there are various objects you can take pictures with. Inside the restaurant, there are two chariots and some traditional statues that might decorate your selfies. The restaurant also features plenty Javanese ornament and even musical instrument that will give you a bit of glimpse of Javanese culture. The overall atmosphere is rather dim, so you might need to use flash to take pictures inside this place.
The restaurant is divided into three floors. The first floor consists of mini garden and a small round bathtub, yes there’s a mini bath tub inside the restaurant. There’s also a stable nearby the toilet, so you might hear the horse neigh every now and then.
The restaurant also plays traditional gamelan music. So, for audiophile, expect something that will transcend your dining experience.
When is The Best Time to Visit?
The best time to visit the restaurant is around 9 a.m or 10 a.m.The restaurant opens 24hr so anytime, you can visit this unique place. Don’t worry about the meal, they’re fresh from the oven. It is also important to note that during holidays the waiting line can be up to an hour. Most people typically spend 1-2hr.
What Do You Recommend?
There’s no particular menu to recommend. I would say everything is worth trying if you have the tummy for it. Price wise, the meal are reasonable. But if you really ask me what to try, the milk served in a woman’s breast cup is a must ! quite a sight for a dining experience. Another one I can recommend is Nasi Kucing, a small size serving rice with anchovies and spicy paste (sambal). The menu book provides pictures of the meal, so you can order anything that’s pleasant to your eyes because the taste is already guaranteed.
How to Get Around ?
Being one of the top eating destinations in Yogyakarta, Raminten is easy to get around. The cheapest way to get into this place is by using TransJogja. Mention that you want to get to Raminten and they will instantly know where it's located. The same way with traditional taxi and also online transportation.
