We ended up getting the Ute stuck in the sand at Lake Bonney. Luckily it wasn't quite as powdery, but it's only a two wheel drive. We were camping there a couple of days anyway, so the girls and I persevered (okay mostly me if I'm honest) and kept digging out at the back of the wheels (probably with sticks as we weren't really prepared for this sort of thing) and putting planks, stones and anything solid we could find behind them for traction. It took the rest of the first day and part of the next to gradually inch it back a bit each time, until we finally got it moving enough to get momentum and get it back to the road.
