This is the temple of Goddess Durga, a Hindu temple.

-------------------------------This temple is built on a small island at South East side in the fewa lake.
Both the Hindus and Buddhist are come here to offer their devotion to the goddess.
There is a shop you can buy offerings for the goddess and this shop also contains some decorative items like the photo frames,wind chimes etc and feeding stuffs for the birds and fishes. There are several types of fishes,frogs,water birds and water snake. The highest population of Waterbirds species (35 species) are found in December and January. Winter season is the most diverged season in terms of number of species.
"Barahi" is the Nepali pronunciation of the Sanskrit word "VARAHI" that means a powerful Boar.
The goddess Durga metamorphose herself into a extremely powerful huge Boar to pierce the evil enemies of gods with the sharp huge tusks.
The goddess Barahi pictured as a Goddess of boar faced with a big metal bowl in one hand and a fish/matsy(Sanskrit word) in other hand.
| STORY OF THE TEMPLE |:
------------------------------------The First shah King of kaski, The Kulmandhan shah was a great devotee of goddess durga, one night he experienced something very spiritual in his dream and get the directions to built a Mandir/temple of the Goddess Barahi onto the small island of phewa lake.
King started the construction on an auspicious day after consultant with his astrologers.
There was other stories about the establishment of this temple. This one is the most believed one.
Bots are the only mode of transportation to the lake temple. The temple is surrounded by the water from all directions. It is more fun if you hire the boat without driver and run it yourself.
There are different types and also different sizes of boats are available at the lakeside. Boating is allowed only in day time. Morning time is the best for a boating adventure in Fewa lake.
The phewa lake is natural creation but the water level of the lake is regulated by the dam. The Maximum water capacity of the lake is approximately 43,000,000 cubic metres. The lake's maximum depth is about twenty to twenty five meter.
