RE: Throwback Thursday's: Ethiopia // Part 2
Fascinating! Now that is one place I have never been to! That is awesome that Becka's dad has such a cool job. Looks like it was one incredible trip! Great post!
Thanks Dan! Yes, not many have covered much of Africa. To be honest, it would be hard due to security issues, cost of visas and generally safety and comfort (you have to pay quite a bit for this). Becca's dad does have a cool job, but requires a lot of patience. The chilled life there is a bit too chilled.
It was an incredible trip and we cannot wait to go back and explore more of the country. Hopefully next time we can venture into Djibouti or Eritrea from there. Kenya and Tanzania will be a whole different trip.
I'm all about living a comfortable travel lifestyle. So I don't see myself going to Africa any time soon. You guys are adventurous to planning trips to those places!
There's not many countries in Africa that would fit in your 'living in a comfortable travel lifestyle on a budget'. But you should check it out in your life time.
Those trips are requiring us to save, save and save! But it's worth it once you are there :)
In twenty years it may be a whole other thing! lol
Ah we hope the economies and infrastructure develop in Africa over the next ten years even! Security and safety will always be at the back of our minds now and in ten years time. We believe it's the same travelling in South America. Less so, but there's always that concern in some countries.

Yes, my level of guard changes from country to country totally. In asia in General it's much more at ease, Latin america not so much. This is why I prefer Asia in general over most other parts of the world. Here in Latin America I'm so cautious I often just stay in my hotel once the sun goes down. 99% of bad things happen after that hour. With years of travel experience I just like to take it easy, start my days early, and play by the better safe than sorry rule.
With 11 years of experience, you must be saavy to know what your surroundings are like and to prioritise safety over curiosity. Didn't that kill the cat? 😜

Exactly. I take very few chances. As this lifestyle could be considered one big chance so I'm always looking to minimize my risks. So far so good. in 11 years of travel I've never been robbed or lost anything!
