SC-S29|Geo-Quest Mystery – Week 3: The Color Hunt
It's quite connecting to see these colors collaborate to produce one color. I'll keep you in suspense. Back then, when Akwa Ibomites were still merged with Cross River State, we didn't have anything to stand out and make us completely different until Akwa Ibom was created on the 23rd of September, 1987. We became an independent state, a land of promise.
We were once in serious danger in Nigeria. If you mix these two words together, we saw the light of the sun. When this sunlight reflected on the danger we were poised to face, we produced a people, a state, an identity, and a nation we cherish so much.
That identity tells you the color we represent and the color I want to talk about that is dominant in this cover picture.
The Capital City's Plaza |
|---|
The location where I found this dominant color that signifies Akwa Ibom State is located at the heart of the capital city, Uyo, in Nigeria. This place is a park and was once a marketplace where people exchanged goods and services until the governor came to remind me of our past and the culture we uphold and cherish.
This is a park, as you'll see from the pictures I'll share. There are a lot of outstanding colors here, but if you look closely, all these colors are like orange under bright sunlight. The orange color of this place is our identity. I choose this place because it's the heart of my city and a place that everyone knows.
You can't be in Uyo and not know about Plaza. Restructuring the purpose of this place from a marketplace to a park, the shining orange color reminds us of a lot of things. Red plus yellow produces orange. Red plus green plus yellow produces orange. Have you seen how the dominant color is connected?
This place is a place where the less privileged and the rich watch matches together, shop together, and take photos together, bringing us together and preserving our unity.
The Sun at Dusk Color |
|---|
Why did I use this? The sun at dusk is usually orange in color if you usually notice. It's not always yellow because of the dark night coming. This particular orange color dominates this place in various ways. You may see other colors if you are looking at this park from far away, but there's a color that would attract your attention.
This color is seen in art, tree designs, and even on the park bench. You see the color blending with other colors that can't overshadow it. The orange color is just so strong because even the red looks like orange, the partial green is barely seen or noticed, and the brown color looks like orange on a sunny day. It's just orange you'll see all through. I see this dominant color in the following.
- There's a popcorn stand in this park. It's painted in orange to attract customers because orange is shouting, and it depicts autumn because the leaves get orange before they dry. The chairs and protector used in this stand are orange.

- Park bench: The park bench is painted with orange color, as you can see. Though not all are painted, you can quickly notice the orange because it's a shouting color.
- Streetlight: The park's streetlight pole is painted with orange, while the solar panel light is still white. If you go around, you'll notice that we have a lot of streetlights, and they are all painted in orange.
- Artwork picture of the governor: This artwork shows a picture of the governor of Akwa Ibom, the governor who came and took Akwa Ibom on her feet, the governor who came and made this color and outstanding color in the whole state so that we can remember where we came from and how different we are from them now.
- A star decor: This star decor was used during the Christmas season and is still there. It usually shines orange light at night. This is what attracts children to this place and makes this place beautiful to take pictures with.
- The Tree color: The trees are dominated with the orange color, which adds to their beauty. It's mixed with other colors, but this particular color tends to stand out among others.
Why this color stands out so strongly in this location |
|---|
It is because of our culture. Anywhere you see an Akwa Ibomite, we always stand out. Even when we were in Cross River, the land of blue, we stood out because orange governs everything; the orange color signifies vitality, warmth, and beauty. People get attracted to the orange color rather than blue. Having this color as an identifying mark for people in Akwa Ibom state, it's painted in every corner and street you enter.
This color reminds us that we can always stand, rise, and shine even in darkness. Our culture is deeply rooted in almost all the artistry that reminds us of our heroes and pasts; you'll see that they are either painted in orange color or gold, which is similar to orange. Remembering our creation date, we fixed it as a day to celebrate orange.
We call it the orange day, and on this day, most Akwa Ibomites paint the street and themselves in yellow. Our buses are orange and red, which blends with the orange color of vibrance and creativity. So it's deeply rooted in our culture because of how the sun at sundown behaves and how we're not far-fetched from its characteristics. Our Calabash and Palm wine cups are slightly orange in color if you notice.

How do I connect to this color and place? |
|---|
This color matches my personality because I'm always open to helping others know what I know. Wherever I find myself, I'm like that sun at dusk to many people because they'll get something from me, and this thing will change their lives. I choose this color out of all the colors in this place because all these colors look like orange.
Even when they try to outshine the orange color, they tend to blend into its color and shine as it shines. This color keeps this place so attractive and warm. There's how you have a lot of colors in a place. Some colors may be nostalgic to people, but this color is neither nostalgic nor repulsive. It's bright but doesn't shout that much. As you can see in the pictures, it tries to blend with the environment.
In contrast to the environment this place is located in, you'll notice that it stands out even from far away. We have other shops, business places, and malls with different colors, but the consistency and color blending of colors in this place just makes it different from all other places and easily noticed by anyone. The buses and road divisions make this place similar to the environment.

The only memory I have of this color was when I was young. I was born to see **tricycles. There were no buses, and these tricycles were painted in yellow color. It was widely used on the road to convey passengers, and people do purchase these tricycles at a particular place where they are lined up. They call this place the secretariat.
That time, injustice was still high along with kidnapping. It got to a point where people couldn't take it anymore because they banned the use of motorcycles. So these motorists stopped at the secretariat and burnt up all the yellow tricycles. Not a single one remained. It was after the destruction of these tricycles that buses were introduced, and they were painted in orange color. Even the yellow tricycles were repainted in orange.
How the orange color connects to my origin point and sound map |
|---|
The origin point was a quest to know more and the reason why certain things are the way they are. My origin point led with sounds, and one outstanding color can be intriguing and leave questions in our minds. Let's say you pass through a track and hear these consistent echoes you're not seeing; you'll love to follow the echoes, right?
Now, let's say there's a particular color of flower that appears almost in every route you take; you'll be curious to know where this color will lead you to or what it signifies.
Hidden Riddle |
|---|
Okay, we have a lot of open secrets already, but use this riddle to identify my color.
- Red + Green + Yellow gives you the color that's dominant in this place.
- I pollute the whole sky with one particular color at dusk. What color is it?
- My name is the Sun at Dusk. I'm SAD and make my real shape come out, but I give humans the best view ever.

I think you are right you have left strong hint of SAD which differs at times but yours is obviously obvious, the orange including your subheadings.
Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate. There's no way we'll hide it especially when it comes to showing 5 objects of this particular dominant colour. Even if I hide the cues, the part I'm asked to explain how and why I choose the colour, I'll need to make it obvious to your readers the colour you're talking about.
Anyways, let's see how this week will be.
You are right, you did not announce it but your pics spoke! Cheers!
