Travel Tip: Okor Castle, beautiful medieval castle just outside Prague

Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I will show you another impressive Czech medieval castle, the famous Castle of Okor.

Located in a village of the same name (Okor) with just about 100 inhabitants, only some 15 km (9 mi) outside Prague, the Okor Castle is a huge stone castle built in the second half of the 13th century. The castle was badly damaged during the Thirty-Year War (1618 - 1648) and it is more of just ruins than an actual castle today but historian surveys found out the castle once used to be a majestic medieval fortress.

After the Thirty-Year War, the Okor Castle underwent several reconstructions as it was owned by different families who had different opinions on what the castle should look like and what purpose it should serve. After the Jesuits, the last owners of the castle, abandoned it in the late 18th century, the structure started to deteriorate until it reached its current appearance.

However, it is the unique romantic atmosphere of the ruins what has been attracting painters, writers and other artists to Okor as it is a great source of inspiration for their work. Due to its close proximity to Prague, the castle is also a very popular and sought-after tourist spot among the residents of the Czech capital.

Okor Castle is an amazing stone castle with a rich historic tradition. Amazed to learn that population of Okor is 100. Is it due to lack of facility available here in the village of Okor or some thing else.
May be the castle become more attractive if decor this historic place and convert Okor palace into some sort of museum. Thanks for introducing the other cool place of your country. keep sharing @czechglobalhosts

It is not necessarily the lack of facility for the inhabitants to be at 100 range. There are a lot of small villages just like this one all around the country. The life in those places is much different compare to city life. People are more connected with nature and take more interest in farming and agriculture. The life in the villages has its own charm and pace. It is definitely not suitable for everyone.

Glad to know that it is not due to lack of facilities but it is due to some good reason. Yes some people love to live near nature.

Sir the way you are representing your country and making us watch your country!
my love for your country is increasing day by day!

just 100 inhabitants?

I'm just stunned!

here we are full of crowdy places!

Thank you so much, I am glad to hear that. Yeah, we are lucky to have villages, towns or smaller cities that are way more suitable for day to day living compare to big overcrowded cities.

yeah, sir!
less population = less pollution and less pollution = fresh air to live <3
I'm I right? @czechglobalhosts.

good to hear that <3
you are spreading love all around <3

It's very old castle in ruins , but stil great to see and great look in to the history, how they managed to build it without the cranes, computers , concrete atc, they were great builders.seems like there are alot of historical monuments in czech

Oh well, that is a great question that I always wonder myself when seeing some magnificent buildings or structures that were built several hundred years ago when there was no technology.... Fascinating indeed!

Very historical castle and is the 100 inhabitants still live there? It looks there aren't many modern facilities over there. Or I am wrong?

Not in the castle but in the village there are and the inhabitants have a full comfort of modern needs.

Awesome Castle! Differently from the most famous castle in Prague, this treasure is kind of ruined by time, whats gives it personality. Must see by people who like to visit ruins.

Oh yeah, very different indeed and definitely undiscovered by a mass tourism. I am sure you would love it there and would take some amazing pics:)....

Some day I'll visit Czech Republic.
Just some day

Oh you definitely should. It is well worth it that I can absolutely guarantee.

I have little knowledge about praha.praha is one of the most unique cities in Europe, with a history of medieval still attached, Prague has buildings with very beautiful architecture. The streets are made of boulders.
Must be fun have a chance to visit there.
