Low grades!
Individuals who have learning difficulties usually have normal intelligence, but some factors prevent achieving good school performance.
In many cases they struggle even harder than their classmates, yet their grades remain low. What directly impacts their self-esteem and sometimes does not want to continue attending school.
A learning difficulty can occur due to different causes: genetic factors, neurophysiological disorders, deficient nutrition or a poorly stimulating parenting environment.
Likewise pre, peri and postnatal problems can be generated. For example: diseases and deficiency in the adequate consumption of vitamins and minerals during pregnancy, very old age of the parents to procreate, among others.
People with learning difficulties may have problems fixing their attention, processing information, speaking, reading, writing, performing mathematical calculations, memorizing, socializing and emotional immaturity.
To avoid learning difficulties as much as possible, we recommend:
- Take advantage of music and games to teach children since they are very young.
- Teach them to respect rules and follow instructions.
- The best reward is to praise when things go well.
- The formation of study habits is very important when starting the schooling.
- Allow them to express their feelings and control their emotions.
- To teach them that failure serves as experience and perseverance is necessary to achieve what is wanted. - Most important, every child should feel loved, respected, accepted and understood.
Finally, if your child has low school performance and does not improve despite providing the necessary help. It is crucial that you seek specialized support to detect and deal with any possible learning difficulties in time. The pediatrician is the first specialist who should be informed about the situation, he will be responsible for referring another specialist (psychologist, neurologist, therapist ...) if he considers it necessary. Adequate and timely assistance will define the academic future of people with learning difficulties.
