If we have yet to include the following into the “Tao of Noxsoma,” we will today. “Never allow anyone to tell you who you are, or are not. Especially you.
After producing, editing and uploading 1,800 videos Ego was finally allowed to consider this vessel, a recording artist, a television producer, a video journalist, in addiction to being a content creator. The technology has literally be put in our hands. The tech has been shrunk down to a point where literally anybody can, and anybody does, produce their own television shows.
There’s not much to it. However, when you come from the middle of the previous century, where televisions weighed more than fifty pounds, were full of vacuum tubes and had to “warm-up” before you could watch your favorite shows, in black & white, but mostly shades of gray, You can truly marvel at the change in the technology. I take this for granted daily. However in this moment, allow a Vagabond to be truly amazed.
We don’t run credits in the show. Nonetheless, Noxsoma is the host, producer, editor, art director, sound technician, (along with apps that basically do all the work), music curator, (from a bank of copy-free music, possibly AI, but maybe not all of it), promoter and recording artist.
Noxsoma, is a recording artist.
Noxsoma TV, Upsilon-FMO, Full Metal Ox, & Noxsoma Life Camp, together comprise a mini-media-empire that fits in the side pocket of my cargo pants.
This is where fantasy meets reality. All the days I spent pretending to be a DJ in by bedroom, making pause-tapes on the little Panasonic cassette recorder with music “taped” off the radio, could turn into something authentic, without the hot, judgmental breath of a program director down my back, worried about my use of slanguage on the air. I don’t remember ever actually “wishing” to be on TV. It was more accurately wondering what it would “be like.” All of this stuff has manifested quite inauspiciously in this century, without the accompanying “identities” of the last century. Not a “journalist,” but a “blogger.” Not a “television personality,” but a “Youtuber” or “content-creator,” “influencer.” All of these titles that came with the “anybody-can-do-it” era of 21st Century.
Mind is still processing the concept of being a “recording artist.” They are supposed to be singers and musicians. At least they were. But now you can read a book and record it. That counts. You can walk down any street any day with your own camera in your own hand pointed at your own face, and as long as you have recorded it, you are a recording artist. It really takes some getting used to, unless you are born into it. That seems to lessen the burden. The terminology isn’t “owned” by the recording industry, although I wouldn’t be surprised if someone tried to copyright “recording artist,” just to keep dudes like your humble vagabond from claiming the title.
You’ve been warned.
One way or the other, I usually tell you guys what I’m thinking and what I have up my sleeve. As we have all but made it through the March Revolution, we are continuing in “full fantasy mode.” This is where our baffling bullshit converges into something audacious.
Starting April, in the tradition of commercial television, we are starting “Sweeps Month.” I don’t know the exact origin of sweeps, and I am not that interested. I don’t even know if it’s traditionally in April. I Just know that we are doing April Sweeps. Maybe we can cleverly connect it to Spring Cleaning.
We have often joked, and dropped spots in a few episodes about recording “albums in the street studio.” Indeed, we have done just that. We recorded an expanded “Rant-Cast” during an Urban Expedition, edited it up, and produced it into our own, “Not-Flicks” special. It’s not stand-up comedy. it’s stand-up philosophy. Maybe a little stand-up irony. It’s an expansion of our piece about “The Cosmic Game.” We are going to be running this as a mini-series during the first third of April. (Coming Attractions.) We also have a full-length uninterrupted audio (mp3) and video version of the “Special” that we are offering as a “Thank-You” gift, for anyone who becomes a paid subscriber (for a month, or a year), to our substack channel. The link is always somewhere close, so catch the vibe and subscribe.
It’s going to take a little getting used-to identifying as a “recording artist.” The other titles can stay in the background. I do not need to overwhelm the system. One title we will not be embracing is, “influencer.” Your boy has mentioned many times, but not lately, if anything Noxsoma is an “un-fluencer.” What’s that? Basically, it’s someone that keeps you from doing dumb shit. When you do dumb shit. Dumb shit happens.
This is your guide into the last three-quarters of this century, from someone who has lived through 40% of the last one.
Did I ever tell you about parity?
No?
I will.
