Boat ride at the Lake District
The Lake District in is a popular holiday destination in the north west of England. The whole area is over 2300 square meters and is most famous for its many lakes, hence the name. The region also has a range of beautiful mountains and valleys, so it doesn't matter whether you like height or lowland, there is bound to be some activity suitable for you.
When I went to the Lake District, I went on a boat trip in one of the lakes called Ullswater. This is the second largest lake in the region and is 14.5km long and 1.2km wide. Most lakes here are long and narrow as they were formed in the ice age when the glacier retreated. You can see the shape of the lake in the sign, often these lakes are called ribbon lakes.
The boat trip is run by a company called Ullswater Steamers and the boats stops are four different locations, it a bit like a hop on hop off bus tour. Here's my boat leaving one of the stops called Howtown.
I choose the Ullswater boat trip because it is the most beautiful lake in the Lake District. The lake has two bends, a bit like a Z shape, and is surrrounded by mountains on both sides. As the boat went down the lake, I could get a great view on both sides as it glided by the ever changing scenery.
Let me show you a few more photos that I took during the boat ride and you can see for yourself that this is in deed a beautiful boat ride.
