Instead of looking for others philosophy and rules to be successful, why can't you have your own philosophies of life. Latter will happen only through self realization. Reading can be made a fun exercise, but taking that lessons and inculcate into your life, you seem loose your identity.
I agree, it's important to look within yourself and figure out your own identity, but I think reading can be a great tool to actually help you build that identity as well. You should read and learn in the pursuit to better yourself!
