The enemy within.

For those who were saying that Trump’s comments about using the military against “the enemy within” was a reference to antifa and other violent extremist — an interpretation I found implausible but apparently sole folks who are MAGA were appalled at the idea it was a broad target so tried to diminish it:

Trump at MSG just made very clear that he means the Democratic Party leadership, establishment, ordinary panoply of elected officials. He made a joke about how the other side makes a big deal of his use of the term, but it’s true, the party is the Enemy Within.

There were some good points made by others in the rally. RFJ Jr and other speakers raised real issues. I think they’re issues the Democrats should own. Tucker claiming the Democrats are the party of business interests is rich. But Democrats have done a terrible job of hitting populist issues that they should own. If Trump weren’t temperamentally disqualified, there’d be a real disucsson to be had.

But Trump is disqualified. There were some good speeches and then along comes the let down. He talks constantly about weird personal masters. He thinks mothers will have to explain “little green papers” to their children who won’t understand what the draft is. He talks about nonexistent crime waves in implausible ways.

But regardless of all that, even if you like that shit and like the policies and like the anti-establishment rhetoric, how can you think it isn’t a disqualifying catastrophe for a candidate to say the other party is the enemy within and he should ignore posse comitatus and use the military against them?! What happened to us?

He goes on to joke about not having read his wife’s book, and other not funny stuff premised on being a jerk. But forget all that. How can you accept a man who thinks it’s ok to talk about using the military against the other party? Even if you don’t believe he would, the rhetoric crosses a line, and it isn’t an accident. He repeats it.

It’s just one example. But one is enough. How can you want that?
