its not really an 8bit thing but LUTS and a decent machine go a long way, probably harder on an st than it is on a c64 depending on the effect

Triad probably one of the first groups ever on the scene that's still active today (so they must all be around 129 years old and drink virgin blood in basements to sustain their lichen nature by now)

as a crash course with not enough info to undrestand anything
the c64 has 3 things called registers, at machine levels registers are used to store fast variables (although im sore the prol33tarians have fancier words in fancier sentences for that) which can be stored and recalled with less cycle-time than using memory addresses (which they tend to call vectors which is quite confusing if you learned that word in hi school or physics)
so lda #1 ... thats probably two opcodes as its a zeropage address , if ... its been a while since we worked on the c64 game
if my ACME serves correct that would mean store the value of address 0001 in the accumulator (which is the name of the A-register)
so its probably lda #$1 sta zflag instead (where zflag is a predefined name that gets replaces pre-compilation in the textfile with a memory address it stands for etcetera)
3 registers aint all that much so the stack becomes important
i dont even recall how many the ST has since we didnt get to motorola ASM yet , i somehow remember the vocore MIPS cpu to have 32 (i think) ... more register means more faster options etcetera
they have special traits too, the x and y are more like indices in a system that revolves around 8 bits, so your max index in a single loop is $FF (255) which is referred to as one page and if im not mistaken if you keep your jumps proper within the page frames of the machine you can shave off another cycle (probably 2 as even the NOP (no operation) instruction doesnt take one, but TWO clock cycles ... maybe thats at electron level the open-closing of a gate or someting nobody here is wozniak and since they took away all money shortly after we finally got a soldering station the base requirements to start learning HDL ... o V HDL or verilog so we can design our own c64 with a blitter and an object processer and a 3DFX and 2mb of working memory and quadruple sids for surround sound with a YM on the side ...
