UFOs - thoughts by Terence McKenna
In July of 2008, I posted a talk given by Terence McKenna at a UFO convention. Unfortunately, I failed to record the date and place of that gathering. However, my guess is that it took place in the late 1990s, as that was when he began making appearances on the Art Bell radio talk show. As you know, there were many UFO enthusiasts of Bell's program.
During the final years of Terence's life he tried to maintain a position of doubt when it came to UFOs. Of course, this was fascinating to his audience because during McKenna's sojourn to the South American jungles in the 1970s he claimed to have seen a UFO that had landed quite close to where he was. He even wrote about it in one of his books.
The talk that Terence gave to this UFO Convention is one of his more interesting, at least in my opinion. And my reason for saying so is that almost all of the rest of his recorded talks were given before people who more or less had already begun to follow his work. But this talk was before a large audience that, for the most part, had never heard of him. If you listen to the entire talk, and if you are already familiar with Terence McKenna's work, I think that you will see what I mean.
You can listen to Terence McKenna's complete talk at the UFO Convention HERE.

PROGRAM NOTES:
[NOTE: All quotations below are by Terence McKenna.]
“I think reason can take us only a certain distance, and then we have to go with the divine imagination.”
“There have been many episodes in the history of science where great hope gave way to paranoia.”
“The [UFO] hysteria has become more explicit and has wandered in first one direction and then another, but if this is a contact it’s the most peculiarly un-contact-like contact it’s possible to imagine.”
“And this is something I’m going to try and convince the UFO community of, what we drug people have that you don’t is repeatability.”
“The Stropharia cubensis mushroom is a memory bank of galactic history. Alien, but full of promise, it throws open a potential for understanding that will sweep away the petty concerns of earth and history-bound humanity.”
“Reason, but a willingness to explore the edges has been [my] method. … I have never seen a violation of physics that was not connected somehow with a psychedelic experience.”
“Not all psychedelics are alike. And this very small family of compounds, called the tryptomine hallucinogens, bear careful examination if we’re seriously interested in this question of exterrestial penetration of the human world.”
“Everybody knows this who has to do with this stuff [psilocybin], Gordon Wasson, Richard Shulties, Albert Hofmann, the giants know that this stuff is animate. This is not a drug. It’s something that’s disguising itself as a drug in order not to spread alarm.”
“I think that the alien will be so alien that your jaw will hang in the air. And expecting to meet an anthropoid-like alien with an interest in your reproductive machinery and gross industrial capacity is as culture-bound a concept as searching NGC-321 for a good Italian restaurant. It’s absurd on the face of it.”
“All of human history is the signifier of the presence of the alien. Human history is what happens to an advance animal species when it is inner-penetrated on a scale of a million years by a mind in another dimension.”
“The flying saucer, the alien, the other is what is sculpting us out of animal organization as we move toward it in time. This is what shamanism is all about. This is what the psychedelic people are discovering as they descend into these trances.”
“A shaman, and a psychedelic person, and a UFO contactee, is someone who has seen the end. They simply didn’t know what they were looking at, because who knows what the end looks like.”
“The world is not what it appears to be.”
“Psychedelic drugs are as important to the study of UFOs as the telescope was to the re-defining of astronomy.”
“I think that the ‘real other’ need not be guarded by the frail efforts of a cults apologists.”
“Now you may have thought telepathy was you hearing somebody else think. Apparently, that’s not what telepathy is. Telepathy is you seeing what somebody else means. It’s the visual acquisition of meaning rather than the audio acquisition of meaning.”
“I think that we are on a collision course with a planet-transforming event, and that we have been for a very, very long time. I also believe that it lies below the horizon of rational apprehension at this point in time.”
“That’s where the frontier of this hyper-technical fantasy is headed, toward a revivification of knowledge systems that were ancient when the pyramids were not yet even a gleam in the eye.”
“I think we’re on the brink of a tremendous evolutionary adventure, and that it will involve physically re-designing ourselves.”
During a sleep paralysis episode I had one night, a grey alien peeped its head around the corner of my bedroom door. When I came out of it, it vanished in a haze of sparkles.
Was it really there? Was it "only" in my head? Is my brain like a TV antenna picking up signals from another dimension? Where is the signal coming from?
And why was it THAT kind of alien, and not ET or the one from the movie Alien, or ALF?
Kind of puts a different spin on his idea that we should "find the others" when I think about it.
Very interesting! I think that you are also psychic and your vibration just waved to someone out there. So the receiver of the signal just came to have a look. He didn't want to frighten you so you were kind of put under a spell. Lucky you! You saw one in real life. I only met them in my dreams or when I did astral projection unintentionally.
Cheers.
Actually I was terrified. Not because of what I saw, but sleep paralysis just does that to people. But at the same time, I knew it was sleep paralysis so part of me knew there was nothing to be afraid of. It's a really interesting mind/body puzzle.
But I did leave the sliding glass backdoor of my apartment open that night. And I remember thinking before I went to bed that that's kind of an invitation for burglars or someone to come in. So maybe that's how I "waved".
Wow! So, you did wave after all! The psychic energy during that point of time is very focus. So, you had a visitor! I will try your trick next time, I really want to meet one soon.
Yes, sleep paralysis is very scary. Funny, I had it very often when I was a kid. May be because the old house was haunted and I got spirit contact very often!
I do miss all that exciting experience!!
Nowadays, it is just boring logical and rational thought process for surviving.
Have a good day!
Cheers.
Yeah, I don't know what happened. The logical side of me says I waved at something in my own mind. But one logical step further says maybe that's how they visit.
Anyway, I don't really want them to come back unless it's in a different mental state. Sleep paralysis isn't very comfortable. Also, maybe if the aliens brought me some beer or something I might be more open to them visiting!
Hahaha! Sorry, they don't drink beer or wine! They drink some kind of energy, I think.
But, if they like you they might stop by 7/11 to get you some beer!
Cheers.
:-) . . . I like that. Maybe Tim Leary went off planet and convinced the aliens to "find the others" as well.
Great work. I once worked with the man who was Timothy Leary's archivist for the last year of his life. We uploaded over 10 hours of unreleased video interviews and private life. Was so incredible to view. I think i will get on him about finding those archives!!! He also worked with Orson Wells.

. . . Paz, Lorenzo
I met Timothy Leary briefly at Festival when he was in South Africa - always amazed as his work and how leading edge it is. I didn't realise that tryptomine's and extraterrestrial penetration of the human world quote which is something you don't really hear about in UFO research and is actually very interesting💭Thanks for sharing...
Interesting post. Many say Terrance was a government operative what do you think?
