JOB HAZARDS.
Learning does not end. I have recently learnt that being a journalist is a hardous profession.
I was watching some news clips circulating on social media concerning the Arua by- elections, before the news clip could even end...the reporter had already been roughed up, the camera I guess was smashed, because the whole clip went blank. shortly after this, reports started coming in that the journalist had been arrested!
What was his crime? Reporting as events were unfolding. I watched in horror as the news was cut short. I am no coward but the way that journalist was handled, made me realise I can not be a journalist. If not I would not be a reporter especially being one that reports in a dangerous situation. I was terrified for that journalist and all those who were arrested in the fracas. In Uganda, the police arrests you and you only explain your case when you are already inside the police cells. It is not those things we watch in American movies where one asks the police why they are being arrested and the police reads them the right to remain silent.
Let us all pray for the people of Arua to have the courage to vote the right representative after all the danger they have endured.
May the right man or woman win.
Blessings.
