The passing of innocence....
Tonight, I got a message from my wife (I'm currently away from home... ) that our oldest daughter has twigged onto the fact that the Easter Bunny isn't real....
I guess it is something that is bound to happen sooner or later... but every parent likes to prolong the realisation and magic for as long as possible. However, as soon as the kids go to school and start interacting with kids that have older brothers and sisters... well, the countdown is started until the moment that they learn that their parents have been making things up for a while.... It's a pity, but sooner or later, it is for the better!
From what I hear, she was pretty okay with it... I'm curious about how long she knew about it... but for the moment, I think the Tooth Fairy and Sinterklaas/Santa Claus are safe... or perhaps not!
She's going to be a sport about it though, and not ruin it for her younger sister! I think she's going to have fun with playing along and keeping the secret with us, and keeping the magic alive for the young one. She's good like that... plus, I think she will enjoy the Easter Egg hunt anyway!
Even still... it is really a moment in a parent's life where you start to realise that your kids are growing up, and that you can't keep information away from them... that they are constantly learning about the world around them. It's beautiful... but it is the passing of an age....

Yes, in many ways it is sad to see if pass... But it must!
Usually, the kids tell each other. The shock on her face was probably good. But then again maybe she figures out rabbits don't lay colored eggs on their own. How old is she?
She is 7, so I'm pretty surprised we made it this far... I'm expecting that she is going to twig onto the other tall tales soon enough!
