ODYSSEY MUSIC PLAYER (A great option replacement for your stock music player)

in #utopian-io6 years ago (edited)

Music has always been a part of me, I mean, for me, music is life. My mood could virtually go from zero to a hundred with the right playlist. I remembered once upon a time, I once fell in love with a girl because of her playlist. I mean like, how can we be so connected with the same type of songs and artists in our playlist.

If you are the type that loves to make an awesome playlist in your music library, Odyssey music player might just be the player you need. I created a Trap music playlist in less than a minute with this one. I mean I’ve been screaming “Scrrr”, and “cheeeeee” all morning. Then again I could easily switch up to my gospel music playlists on Sundays and blues at night.
It has some cool features that I found helpful that made me decide to write a review on it. You will get to see them in the course of this review.

INTRODUCTION

As I earlier implied, music is like a lifestyle. You can just read into someone’s personality by the music he/she listens to. Well, all this epistle about music will be visited later in my blog. But for now, let’s dive into the main point of the day.
For a more concise review of Odyssey player, I’ll be splitting the review into two main parts.

• Features
• User interface (UI)

FEATURES

The music player comes with a lot of features that are common to most music players but some of which are not as commonly found in most music apps. Although it has some limitations which will be revisited at the end of this review, I think the developer is still trying to build in more features in future app versions. As the latest version (1.1.18) was released 12 days ago. The features are as follows;

• Homepage
• playlists
• bookmarks
• files

HOMEPAGE

The initial homepage of Odyssey music player app has a simple design format. Here, the music tracks are sorted into album, artists and track names respectively. This way, you can decide to search out any track by using the name of the artist, name of the album or the title of the song. This has always been a bit of a problem for me while searching out a music track using the stock music player (Boomplay) that came with my phone.

PLAYLIST

This is my favorite part of any music player because it comprises of my personal creations. Carefully selected songs that I love. They can be created so easily, which is why I find myself using the app almost every time. Another exciting feature I discovered is that, you can also create a playlist from a music folder in your phone. All you have to do is play a song from that folder and save the entire folder songs as a playlist.

BOOKMARKS

I didn’t get to understand this feature at first, but when I did, I was shocked. This feature helps you to bookmark any point in a song you find really interesting. I for one do have favorite parts of songs that gets me jumping or shouting when it comes up. This feature helps you pin that point so that anytime you want to hear it, you can just tap it on your bookmark.

FILES

This feature helps you to access your phone storage files. This is really helpful especially when you want to access an album folder on your phone. I think the best thing about this feature is that you can easily turn a music folder into a playlist on the app.

USER INTERFACE (UI)

I’ve always been an advocate for beautiful things. You should ask my exes lol. So, looking at the interface I would say on a scale of 1 to 10, with my eyes for gorgeous things I would give it a strong 7.
You see, the app has a straightforward and cool interface. I’m guessing that’s why the app size is not that big.

THEMES

It has a dark and a bright theme selection which I think is really helpful especially when one is using it during the day or during the night. It also has a series of color theme designs, 9 in number which are indigo, orange, deep orange, blue, dark grey, brown, dark green, red, and OLED dark. I usually have a dilemma while choosing the right them design, so I just go with the color that fits my mood then. For now, am using the brown color theme design.

NOW PLAYING STYLES/THEMES

This feature is common to all music players. Odyssey music player has the option to alternate between the album cover and the artist image, in the view of the current playing song. Which I find really appealing. And the option to download album covers/artist images from an online provider (last.fm and musicbrainz).

OTHER FEATURES

sleep timer

This feature helps to turn off the music at any given time duration one sets. This feature is especially important because it helps to save ones battery in cases where one sleeps off while the music is still playing. Although, the highest time limit is sixty minutes.

Wikipedia Search

There are so many times I’ve been in a situation where I’d fall in love with an artist music style and want to just download more songs so I can elongate the feeling it brings. This feature helps to achieve that. The feature helps to search out more information about the current playing song. This comes in handy when one is searching for more albums or songs from a particular artist.

Share Current Music Track

This feature is really exciting as it helps you share your joy and feelings in a song to your friends and loved ones. It helps to share the music file from your device directly and not just a link as most apps do.

SUMMARY

In the course of this review, I’ve been able to elaborate on the features of Odyssey music player. Although it’s not as sophisticated as most music players, it has some features that make it a keeper in my device. Features like the bookmarks, folder play and the ability to create a playlist with ease as well as its cool user interface.

I won’t also forget to mention some of its limitations. Features like an online audio streaming, an equalizer as well as on-screen lyrics are some of the features I would love to see in future versions of the app. It’s quite a great app if you like creating playlists like me, or if you are looking for a music app that won’t take up much of your storage or cause a lag on your device.
