How SteemMakers is helping steemians

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

SteemMakers is about helping others and each other. We aim to unite and support makers and DIYers on the Steem blockchain. In our spare time we have slowly built a small but active community, our website is in alpha and we are supporting steemians almost on a daily basis. We're on a roll and our work is starting to get noticed which is even better for the Steem authors.

Visibility is key

SteemMakers is just a newborn. We're a small group of enthusiasts trying to unite around our passion. We care about every SteemMaker and we try to support good content creators by voting on their content and featuring it on our website. A lot of good content gets snowed under on other Steem blockchain frontends such as steemit.com and busy.org. As a result your carefully crafted blog post about your nice work disappears into oblivion after a week. We believe that it's not only about the money and the first couple of days of attention, but also about the engagement and the content. Even though it is not possible to reward you for it on the blockchain after 7 days doesn't mean nobody should know about what you created and how. Others can still learn from it or get inspired by it. Readers might find you an interesting author to follow, but if they never find your post in the first place that becomes really hard. That's why our selection gets featured on our website, and stays there to be easilly found, and not just during a couple of days.

Voting for support and visibility

"Steem is a blockchain-based rewards platform for publishers to monetize content and grow community." is a quote straight from the steemit.com website. Let's be honest: we all like to be rewarded for our work somehow. Steem offers the possibility to be rewarded financially and we try to contribute to that. We are convinced that our modest contribution helps to keep authors motivated and keep creating content on the Steem blockchain. All blog posts that get featured on our website also get a vote from the SteemMakers community account.

Delegations to increase the vote

@drmake recently added a delegation page to our website. Our community has just started and the account doesn't have a lot of voting power yet. Delegation on the Steem blockchain is a way to support other accounts without losing control over your funds. When you delegate an amount of Steem Power to SteemMakers our community account can vote for others on your behalf without you having to transfer funds to us. You can stop the delegation at any time without needing consent from anyone, you keep full control over your funds. Because this creates many win-win situations it's a popular concept and several generous people have been increasing the voting power of the community account which helps us supporting all SteemMakers.

Trail

Delegating is not the only way in which we help the vote of SteemMakers stand out. Third party services exist that allow you to follow the SteemMakers voting, practically allowing you to vote on the same content as we do. Following a trail is beneficial for both parties. It increases the support SteemMakers can give and when you follow you automatically vote on quality posts that might receive bigger votes later on which increases your curation rewards. @pbock created the trail page on our website to outline how you can follow the trail. At this moment 12 accounts are following the trail. Every vote the SteemMakers community account makes will be followed by these accounts for extra support.

Curie

@curie is an established name in the Steem landscape. They curate exceptional content with little to no content type limitations. They aim to support and motivate new steemians by giving them a big supportive vote. A great team of curators looks out for that exceptional content and they all have their own techniques of finding these hidden gems. It has come to our attention that at least two of these curators are keeping an eye on what we are selecting. Our selection criteria are different to those of @curie so a vote of @curie is not at all guaranteed. Nevertheless we have seen quite a few articles getting a @curie vote because they were discovered on our site. We are proud to be a gateway for good content and being able to help in our own way. At the time of writing these are the guidelines. For the latest @curie guidelines have a look at their blog.

SteemSTEM

Unfortunately SteemSTEM just announced they are taking a break. SteemSTEM is a community strongly associated with quality. SteemSTEM, just like @curie, and SteemMakers keeps an eye open for quality content and tries to promote it in their own way. We were very pleased to hear that some of their moderators keep an eye on what we select because there is some overlap.
