Indeed we are what we think. What we eat intellectually affect us and others. And one should indulge in more than just brain candy. But actively search for that which will challenge them to offer more to the world. Though I fail often, I try to think of what the reader would want to hear and not just what I think is good. I suppose that marketers do the same but they do it for financial profit rather mental advancement for all. Entertainment should be only a minor consideration, however society has fast become a world of serve me rather than others so thee tool of entertainment has been used more in writing at the expense of quality content. Perhaps it is about finding both points, your own first which leads into a more authentic relationship with the audience.

Yep, they do which is why they are so good at selling nonsense no one really needs. Part of the problem :)
