Este distinguido artista plástico nació el 13 de marzo de 1870 en Filadelfia (Pennsylvania).

Estudió en la Escuela Secundaria Central en Filadelfia, de donde egresó en el año 1890.

Desde joven mostró interés por el dibujo y la pintura. Sus primeros trabajos pictóricos los realizó como reportero artista en el periódico The Philadelphia Record, pero en el año 1892 renunció. Luego se inscribió en la Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Pero era muy inestable en lo relacionado con los horarios académicos, razón por la cual no culminó sus estudios.

En el año 1895 viajó a Europa, primero visitó los Países Bajos y luego París.

Regresó a los Estados Unidos en el año 1896 y consiguió trabajo en New York como ilustrador en el periódico New York World.

Se unió al grupo "Los ocho pintores independientes". Esta organización creía en la libertad de los artistas, y rechazaba los dogmas de las Academias de Arte.

Contrajo nupcias con Edith Dimock, en el año 1904.

Falleció el 22 de mayo de 1938 en Connecticut.

He studied at Central High School in Philadelphia, graduating in 1890.

From a young age, he showed an interest in drawing and painting. He began his artistic career as a reporter for the newspaper The Philadelphia Record, but resigned in 1892. He then enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. However, he was very inconsistent with his academic schedule, which is why he did not complete his studies.

In 1895, he traveled to Europe, first visiting the Netherlands and then Paris.

He returned to the United States in 1896 and found work in New York as an illustrator for the newspaper The New York World.

He joined the group "The Eight Independent Painters." This organization believed in the freedom of artists and rejected the dogmas of the Art Academies.

He married Edith Dimock in 1904.

He died on May 22, 1938, in Connecticut.
