Metal Lords: Rock is dead? | Review [ESP - ENG]

There is something I never usually do and that is to choose to watch the first thing Netflix shows me, that is, turn on the TV, choose Netflix, and put the first movie or series that comes up recommended in giant because it is usually something that is trending because it is something like Elite or "Pedro El escamoso", so I spend a lot of time trying to choose something that hooks me until I get out and go watch something on HBO. This time it wasn't like that, I was about to have lunch, I turned on the TV, put on Netflix and the trailer for Metal lords popped up with the image of two teenage boys and one of them with his face all painted up, I definitely had to watch it.

Hay algo que nunca suelo hacer y es escoger para ver lo primero que me muestra Netflix, es decir, prender la tele, escoger Netflix y poner la primera película o serie que me sale recomendada en gigante porque generalmente es algo que está en tendencia porque es algo como Elite o "Pedro el escamoso", así que paso mucho rato tratando de escoger algo que me enganche hasta que me salgo y me voy a ver algo a HBO. En esta oportunidad no fue así, me disponía a almorzar, encendí la tele, puse Netflix y me apareció el tráiler de Metal lords con la imagen de dos chicos adolescentes y uno de ellos con toda la cara pintada, tenía que verlo, definitivamente. The last movie I tried to watch that was about rock was "Rock of Age" and many of us know that this was a complete disaster, that the only thing it had was a constellation of stars and good publicity, but that's not the only thing you need for a movie to get off the ground. So when I started watching Metal Lords, I did it with a lot of skepticism, because I didn't know where this could end up, but I'll tell you right now without having to get to the end: It ended very well. The plot of the movie is simple: two misfit friends from a high school decide to form a Post Death Metal band (🤣) to reach glory, and the only way they had to achieve this was to participate in their school's battle of the bands. To complete the band they needed a bass player and the only person available was a cellist who also played clarinet in the marching band.

La última película que intenté ver que trataba de rock fue "Rock of Age" y muchos sabemos que esto fue un completo desastre, que lo único que tuvo fue una constelación de estrellas y buena publicidad, pero no es lo único que se necesita para que una película salga a flote. Así que cuando empecé a ver Metal Lords, lo hice con bastante escepticismo, porque no sabía en qué podía parar esto, pero de una vez les digo sin tener que llegar al final: Terminó muy bien.

La trama de la película es sencilla: dos amigos inadaptados de una secundaria deciden formar una banda de Post Death Metal (🤣) para llegar a la gloria, y la única manera que tenían para lograr esto era participar en la batalla de las bandas de su colegio. Para completar la banda necesitaban un bajista y la única persona que está disponible era una chelista que tocaba también el clarinete en la banda marcial.

The production and script were in charge of a prominent and quite well-known (and hated by many 🤣🤣) producer D.B. Weiss, who was one of the producers of the popular TV series Game of Thrones, and the writer of the fateful final chapter. This time, he did something completely different, he went another way and came out on top. As for the musical direction, it was in charge of one of the outstanding members of the rock world: Tom Morello, former guitarist of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave. He was not only in charge of the incredible soundtrack but also of educating and teaching how to play to the three main characters of the film, who learned to play for the film.

La producción y guion estuvo a cargo de un productor prominente y bastante conocido (y odiado por muchos 🤣🤣) D.B. Weiss, quien fue uno de los productores de la popular serie de televisión Game of Thrones, y el escritor del fatídico capítulo final. En esta oportunidad, hizo algo completamente diferente, se fue por otro camino y salió airoso.

En cuanto a la dirección musical, estuvo a cargo de uno de los miembros destacados del mundo del rock: Tom Morello, ex guitarrista de Rage Against the Machine y Audioslave. I love seeing new actors in movies and you know it, I see them and say, "mmmm, fresh meat." And this movie didn't skip that rule, as a good teen movie, it had a lot of youngsters that I'm sure we'll see again. But mention must be made of at least our top three, starting with 19-year-old Jaeden Martell, who plays Kevin and who despite his young age we've seen in several major productions like It or Knives out. The character of Kevin is quite common in many teen series, a nerd who does not fit in and is bullied, but as a way out he begins to study drums under the orders of Hunter, his best friend. Kevin is gradually transformed into a metal nerd, believe me, these exist. They have withdrawn beings who spend their lives in front of their instrument, studying and listening to music for hours. He has a pretty cool evolution, nothing out of the ordinary, someone like anyone else who, with hard work, learns something he didn't even know existed.

To counterbalance Jaeden's fame, Adrian Greensmith, who plays Hunter, and Isis Hainsworth, who plays Emily, the virtuoso in this film, a cello player who unwittingly undermines their friendship. Both actors are so new to this film world that the information we have about them is almost nil, so I'm pretty excited to see what the future holds for them. Hunter is the typical obnoxious metalhead, who thinks he knows more than everyone else, and maybe he does, but he's still obnoxious. I knew these guys too, and I could have dated a couple of people like that. Well, I didn't date, I was the girlfriend of one, and more than once I helped him paint his face. Because yes, I had my metal era, but it was generally closet, ha, ha, ha, ha. I didn't go around like this in full metal garb (although I would have really wanted to). But the story here is that if you've been, known, or been around any of these characters, you'll know they're exactly like this.

A mí me encanta ver actores nuevos en las películas y ustedes lo saben, yo los veo y digo: "mmmm, carne nueva." Y esta película no se saltó esta regla, como buena película de adolescentes, tuvo un montón de jóvenes que estoy segura de que volveremos a ver. Pero hay que hacer mención al menos de nuestros tres primeros, empezando por Jaeden Martell de 19 años, quien interpreta a Kevin y que a pesar de su corta edad lo hemos visto en varias producciones importantes como It o Knives out. El personaje de Kevin es uno bastante común en muchas series de adolescentes, un nerd que no encaja y al que hacen Bullying, pero como salida empieza a estudiar la batería bajo las órdenes de Hunter, su mejor amigo. Kevin se va transformando poco a poco en un nerd del metal, créanme, estos existen. Son unos seres retraídos que pasan su vida frente a su instrumento, estudiando y escuchando música por horas. Tiene una evolución bastante genial, nada fuera de lo ordinario, alguien como cualquiera que echándole ganas aprende algo que ni siquiera sabía que existía.

Para contrarrestar la fama de Jaeden, llegan Adrian Greensmith, quien interpreta a Hunter, e Isis Hainsworth, quien encarna a Emily, La virtuosa en esta película, una ejecutante del violoncelo que llega a debilitar la amistad entre ellos sin quererlo. Ambos actores son tan nuevos en este mundo del cine que la información que tenemos de ellos es casi nula, así que estoy bastante emocionada por saber que les depara el futuro. Hunter es el típico metalero detestable, que considera que sabe más que todo mundo, y tal vez si sepa, pero no deja de ser detestable. A estos también los conocí, y pude haber salido con un par de personas así. Bueno, no salí, fui novia de uno, y más de una vez lo ayudé a pintarse la cara. Porque sí, tuve mi época de metalera, pero generalmente era de closet, ja, ja, ja. No andaba así como estos con toda la indumentaria metalera (aunque realmente lo habría querido). Pero la historia aquí es que si tú has sido, conocido, o estado cerca de alguno de estos personajes, sabrás que son exactamente así.

I really enjoyed this movie because of the factors I mentioned before, I also had my Dark period, so both the music and the development of the characters through it brought back a lot of memories that made me laugh out loud. As a normal teenage family movie, it brought a message, one left by the years and all the metalheads who are still alive and with some neurons still working: you don't need to be promiscuous, nor consume all the drugs in the world, nor swallow all the liters of liquor, nor have an insane rebelliousness when you have the best parents in the world just because you decided to dress in black and paint your face. Rock is more than that; it's about enjoying the rhythms, listening to the double bass drums with the double pedal of the drums, listening to the riffs of the guitars, or the pulse of the bass (or the cello), listening to the lyrics, and the difficulty of reaching a high pitch, or a guttural bass (which is one of the most complicated things to do). This is rock, this is metal. The rest is a matter of how you lead your life, it's a matter of attitude.

Esta película me la disfruté muchísimo por los factores que ya expuse anteriormente, también tuve mi época Dark, así que tanto la música, como el desenvolvimiento de los personajes a través de ella me trajeron muchísimos recuerdos que me hicieron desternillarme de risas.

Como buena película normal, familiar de adolescentes, trajo un mensaje, uno que dejaron los años y todos los metaleros que aún siguen vivos y con algunas neuronas aún funcionando: no hace falta ser un promiscuo, ni consumir todas las drogas del mundo, ni tragarse todos litros de licor, ni de tener una rebeldía insana cuando tienes los mejores padres del mundo solo porque decidiste vestirte de negro y pintarte la cara. El Rock se trata más que eso; se trata de disfrutar los ritmos, escuchar la el repique de los dobles bombos con doble pedal de la batería, de escuchar los riff de las guitarras, o el pulso que marca el bajo (o el violoncello), es escuchar las letras, y la dificultad de llegar a un agudo, o a un grave gutural (que es una de las cosas más complicadas de hacer). Esto es Rock, esto es metal. El resto se trata de como lleves tu vida, es cuestión de actitud.

I could honestly recommend this movie to everyone, it's a pretty good, wholesome movie. If you were ever part of the metal scene you will enjoy it to the fullest. If you are a person who doesn't understand any of this, you could watch it, because you will still enjoy it. And perhaps, the new generations, those who have not had the opportunity to listen to Metal in their lives, can approach this genre and perhaps bring the genre into the mainstream again. In the end, all that remains is to answer the question: Is Rock Dead? I, very seriously, answer no, it is simply that there are other things going on out there (you know what I mean) and that talking about rock being dead is like saying that other genres such as salsa, merengue, jazz, classical music, are dead. This one simply placed itself in the highest strata to be recognized as one of the best musical genres. So I say: # ROCK IS NOT DEAD!!!
Yo sinceramente podría recomendar esta película a todo el mundo, es una película sana y bastante buena. Si alguna vez formaste parte de una movida metalera la disfrutarás al máximo. Si eres una persona que no entiendes nada de esto, podrías verla, porque igual la disfrutarás. Y tal vez, las nuevas generaciones, esas que no han tenido la oportunidad de escuchar Metal en su vida, puedan acercarse a este género y quizás poner en mainstream otra vez el género.
Al final solo queda responder la pregunta: ¿El Rock está muerto? Yo, muy seriamente, respondo que no, es simplemente que hay otras cosas sonando por allí (ya saben de qué hablo) y que hablar de que el rock está muerto es como decir que otros géneros como la salsa, el merengue, el Jazz, la música clásica, estuviera muerto. Este simplemente se ubicó en los estratos más altos para ser reconocido como uno de los mejores géneros musicales. Así que digo: # ¡EL ROCK NO HA MUERTO! Fuente
