RE: Veteran Tell me your story....
Hooah and congrats! U.S. Army Veteran here myself. MOS was 88L and 13F, but I was deployed for other odd jobs I never imagined of working in Latin America, Haiti and Guyana. U.S. Army 7th Transportation Group, 1097th River Rat with SOUTHCOM in Panama and attached to the United Nations (Boo) in Haiti. Was born at Fort Dix, NJ and went to basic training at Fort Dix 10 days before my 21st birthday which fell on the 21st of Feb, 1996.
Military Story Time! We all have a million of them...
Drove for an Army Colonel who was full of himself. Guess most are... Anyway, driving along and he screams "stop hitting all the damn bumps in the road while I'm trying to sign papers"... Then he proceeded to sing a song with the vocals "I would rather be dead than red on the head" taking a jab at my red hair... Pulled over, said I quit, opened the door and started walking down the highway.
The Colonel's Sgt. Major came running after me down the highway with the unlit cigar he always chewed on without smoking and a diet coke in hand... He said the Colonel can be an ass, but he likes ya and offered you one of his coveted diet cokes.... Let's go! Walked back to the car and carried on. And that was one of several times I almost got kicked out of the Army, but finished my time with an honorable discharge. Coke and a smile saved the day.
Colonel had a fear of helicopters and I had to drive him everywhere.. .Got a call in the middle of the night to pick him up way out in the country side of Virginia. His helicopter ride had some fuel system problems and auto rotated with a rough landing in a farm field. Arrived on scene and he's out there drinking beer with the farmers and locals standing around the disabled helicopter. Lucky dude, but he passed a few years ago after leaving the Army due to health issues.
Anarchist and wasn't sure if I could pull off four years of getting along with authority, but I wanted to travel :-D Did it somehow and left having completed my 4 year time with an honorable discharge.
If the Army stories start kicking off now, the comment feed will be miles long... Whose next?
