Briefly Addressing Two Common Objections to the Philosophy of Voluntaryism.

in #video7 years ago (edited)

The two objections/questions (taken from an actual conversation with an acquaintance) are:

  • Is Voluntaryism the absence of violence?
  • Voluntarism is a utopian philosophy!

Nice to meet you. I loved this post. :) CHEERS

AAAAAAMMMMEEEEENNN!!!!!!

Cheers to you! My friends, and Voluntary on!

IMO rather than eye gouging, the avoiding-rape-victim to be would be better off using something like this...

aikido.jpg

To neutralize the violence of the attempted racist... and then maybe ask him WTF he was thinking.

I think the principles of Aikido work well with a voluntaryist philosophy.

Yes, the principles, maybe, but probably not the art itself. Aikido's great, but I don't think most individuals, in the heat of the moment, are going to be able to think clearly enough to do something like this. Not to mention that Aikido is more of a formal art, often requiring the "assailant" to be in very specific positions favoring the application of the "defensive maneuver." I think, as Bruce Lee did, that eye-gouges, stomping toes, and smashing balls with knees is probably the best bet ;)

Of course you're right, the rapist unfamiliar with Ukemi would almost certainly end up with a broken wrist or neck!

What Aikido does offer though is the practice of remaining calm under stressful situations, which I think is useful whether yer facing a shit day at work, a rapist, or the body-armoured forces of the state.

Being able to choose to gouge out the eyes of any of the above is always preferable to doing so in a blind panic (no pun intended).

Gun. Problem solved.

Am agree to your point that if someone defend himself or herself from any kind of problem, its not call spreading violence...as you mentioned if a girl protect herself with a force ,what is wrong there... everyone has the right to defend one self...here the question is where one using force...for gud thing or for bad thing...defending for rape never mean speading violence....if so then every girl or every woman spread violence protecting herself from such type of rapist....

The importance of self-defence and protecting your property feels like common sense. But humanity seems to go down a road where it slowly becomes a sin while for some specially selected people, ruthless violence is allowed, deemed justified or even glorified. It all depends on the ongoing narrative.

ruthless violence is allowed, deemed justified or even glorified

Yes. We are living on a crazy farm.

Very interesting post, voluntarism philosophy is referring the absence of violence .If everyone thinks for himself as the highest othority of his own ,if one get highest respect than one also give the same behavior to others too. From time immemorial, state have been playing a role in creating violanc to peniking people, directly or indirectly in every country. Thanks for the great topic. Have a great day friend happy steeming.

Do you think it's possible for a state itself to be voluntaryist? Where taxes are voluntary, and the military only exists for self-defense? Or would it necessarily violate voluntaryist principles in some way?

Hypothetically speaking, of course. I don't expect this to happen any time soon.

Enter private law societies. Anarchy means no rulers, not no rules. The important thing to know - and many statists are ignorant about - is that anarchists often want to live in communities that have rules, but they just don't reject not having a choice to opt out like it's the case at the moment. Take Liberstad for example: it's a private city with rules (although few) and people voluntarily agree to live by those rules.

As far as I know, Liberland has voluntary taxation. But it's a really small country, I don't know how could it work on a bigger scale.

Yeah..aggressive violence and violence are two different things ...but i don't think state must be eliminated because it supports violence for livelihood .voluntarilist supports non violence ..and if a girl is raped then she will try to save herself and in that case that is not violence ..that is self defence ...

I'd love it if you could copy paste your quote at the 4:05 mark if possible.

That's one hell of a quote ^.^

No voluntaryanist, prominent one at least, assume there will ever be or can ever be a complete elimination of violence. Voluntarynysm assert that in order to minimize violent conflicts and the potential therefore, the state must be one of the thing eliminated as it objectively depends upon, said violence for its very foundational lively hood and existence. It follows logically that if violence and lost of life are to be minimized that the state then must also be eliminated, indeed the utopian philosophy is the one that maintain that violence is necessary and just the right amount of violence, done by the right people, in the right position of power can produce an absence of violence, i.e. peace and that is an absurd position and that is the position held by statist. - Kaf

Not the exact quote. I'll probably use this one in an upcoming post.

I've since deleted the FB post I was quoting from. If I get some time tonight I'll transcribe it. Thanks, @teamsteem.

Self defence can never be a violence.. From this point of view the philosophy of volutarysim never be mix-up with violence... If someone will bear the injustice, abuse, and other physical assault done by others upon him...this can't be acceptable philosophy at any more...
