Graffiti park in Da Nang shut down right as it gets started, lol

At least this time it wasn't because some land owner decides he doesn't want to let the kids have any fun though, at least this time it is because whoever owns that land finally decided to stop sitting on their hands and actually do something with the land.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean that nobody is going to do anything to that wall. It could end up being quite the opposite actually. Often, the respectful taggers see this as a definitive chance to get in there and do something that even if it is noticed, the people in charge are not going to care. hell, they could probably run up in there while the workers are in the dirt and paint it right in front of them and there wouldn't really be any reason for anyone to complain about anything other than the fumes or perhaps getting in their way.

It's just a bit nuts to me that it was only about 2 weeks after this place started to get turned into an unofficial street-art place that the people who have had this land for years finally started to do something with it. I know that a few strings in the dirt isn't exactly a large scale effort or anything, but I would imagine that they aren't just going to drop some strings and then walk away.

I don't know a great deal about construction, but that is likely a wall that is going to go in there.

Those are not deep holes that have been dug there, so chances are this is not going to be a very tall structure, perhaps just 2-3 stories. I have heard some tales about how the earth in a lot of this region isn't strong enough to support anything taller than that without doing some sort of major engineering feat that involves digging very deep into the ground and given the small size of this plot of land that wouldn't really make a great deal of sense to bother with that. This spot isn't really even big enough to be any sort of residence so if I had to guess it will likely be something really boring that we already have 25 of in the neighborhood like a coffee shop or pizza place.

It will be interesting to see if the people that have been "casing" the area will come bay and paint though.

Just FYI: The reason nobody would care if they painted the back wall now is because whatever gets built here is going to be built over that wall as well, so anything that gets put up there will end up covered anyway. One thing I like about most of the taggers are street artists here is that there does seem to be some level of respect among most of them. They do not paint on something that is new or under construction. Temporary fences and abandoned buildings are free game though.

I do not know what the laws are here but I presume vandalism, even nice-looking vandalism is a crime, but believe it or not, the Communist police/army who serve as law enforcement look not just at a law, but also the reasonable enforcement of it. Therefore, if you are busted putting a tag on a building that is going to get torn down anyway, the probably just do the Vietnamese version of "get outta here you silly kids!" and leave it at that.
