Bad news for the neighborhood and Nadi gets adventurous

in #vietnam4 days ago

You may recall that recently the vacant lot opposite my apartment building was being cleared and hit had me worries because this could mean that a large construction project was going to be creating noise pollution for a very long period of time.

I was a bit hopeful that perhaps they were just clearing the land because it was overgrown with weeds and therefore harboring rats and other vermin. It took a few days for this question to be answered but I went and took a closer look today and the prognosis is not good.

While there is nothing going on right now it is not good to see these materials here. I don't know a huge amount about construction but I now that these are some sort of rotary something or other that is meant to dig holes straight down. They are in pieces because they are meant to go quite far down.

Another thing that is being stored on site is even more worrysome. You have to look pretty close but there is an "X" or cross-shaped tool there right next to the orange tarp. This I have seen in action up close and personal-like and it is attached to a rebar machine in order to make squares that are inserted into cement columns for vertical support of the building. The larger one of these things are, or I suppose the longer they are across, the taller the building is going to be. That thing is about a meter across and that is the same size as the support beams in the building that I currently live in. Our building is 11 stories tall so I think we can say that they have plans to make something of similar height.

This is going to introduce a lot of bad things during the construction phase but once they are done it also means that what little remains of my view is going to be kaput and also whoever moves into that place on the higher floors is going to have a straight shot looking directly into my living room, which will be very strange.

I guess we'll focus on the good since there is nothing I can do about it.

Since this area has only recently been all mixed up and cleared, there were a lot of very interesting smells over there for Nadi. She might not be so easy to spot since her coat is about the same color as the dirt.

She really enjoyed running around and sniffing everything and even climbed up that pile of dirt in the middle, which strangely made me kind of proud.

There's a wonderful shot of her butt as she climbs up to become Queen of the Hill. Nadi can't see so well anymore, so any sort of doing anything like this is a slow moving process. She also seems to be losing a bit of her hearing so she took her sweet time coming back to me even though I was calling her. I don't think she was ignoring me, she just didn't know anyone was calling her. I left her to it since I wasn't interested in getting my shoes all muddy.

It's just a matter of time before this things gets into full swing and there's already a lot of chatter in the building about people moving away which I already know is probably mostly idle chatter. I suppose if one good thing can come out of this it will be that once construction starts, the owner of the building I live in will abandon any potential ideas they might have about raising the rent because the rent has been going up a lot in my neighborhood lately and she knows she can charge more as well. That changes quite a bit once there is 12 hours a day construction noise to contend with.

Nadi and I will take it is stride I suppose and just live most of our lives with the windows closed. We'll get by. She can barely hear anything anyway so it will only be bothering me.
