This map is absurdly misleading.

You'd assume at a glance that there were no forests left in the US, but it's basically a map of unexplored territory in 1620, vs. a ton of areas where maybe one or two logging roads cut through but which would otherwise be absolutely indistinguishable to normal people today.

There probably is less forested area overall now, but there's actually a lot more than we had 100 years ago.
