About smoothie: goodness to be consumed in moderation
Smoothie is a fruit and vegetable based drink and therefore contains many vitamins. Nevertheless, the consumption of these brightly colored juices requires some attention.
There are 5 famous portions of fruit and vegetables daily recommended by nutritionists, but it is not so easy to stick to it. And so the idea of spinning bananas, apples, carrots and so on in a mixer to cover comfortably and in a few sips the daily dose of fruit and vegetables in the form of a smoothie is even more appealing. In this case, however, some important considerations should not be overlooked.
More vegetables than fruit
It is necessary to use caution when consuming sugary fruits because the fructose they contain makes them a real calorie bomb. If we drink a smoothie prepared with too much fruit, we quickly take on a huge amount of fructose. Generally, when we eat fruit in the solid form we do not run this danger, because we can hardly eat so much at one time. Our body can only metabolize a certain amount of fructose and after this threshold; the intestine reacts negatively causing stomach ache, amateurism or diarrhea. The excess of fructose cannot be transformed into energy and is deposited as fat. For this reason, the smoothie containing more vegetables than fruit is healthier:
Food consistency is decisive
With centrifugation, many of the fibers in solid foods are lost. The lack of fiber in the diet can lead to constipation. Furthermore, it should not be forgotten that the form in which we take fruits and vegetables greatly influences the sense of satiety: we feel more satisfied after eating a portion of solid food after having drunk some liquid because the stomach is fuller. However, considering the nutritional value and calories, smoothie is not a drink to be savored from time to time, but rather a small meal.
Drink slowly
The smoothie should, therefore, be considered an intermediate meal and not a refreshing drink to drink from time to time. Each sip should be held in the mouth for a moment to mix with the saliva. The amylase contained in the saliva already breaks down carbohydrates into the mouth, which are smoothie, and therefore prevents amateurism. Furthermore, the pH of saliva can partially neutralize acidic foods and consequently protect the stomach. It is advisable not to drink large quantities at a time, so as not to fatigue the intestine during digestion.
A smoothie from time to time
Although it is preferable to consume fruit and vegetables in solid form, you should not give up completely to smoothie. As often happens, a lot depends on the quantity. If you do not have much time you can alternatively drink a juice, preferably homemade. If you do not even have time to prepare it, then take a look at the ingredients of the juices purchased because they are very often stretched. However, in the long run, smoothies are not suitable for replacing fresh foods. And finally: a typical smoothie does not contain milk or its derivatives, but only fruit and vegetables, and can be enriched, according to taste, with nuts, seeds or herbs.
