The Castle of Vizille
We're going for a walk today! As I announced to you. If you pass by Grenoble, I suggest a nice outing that will delight young and old alike: the Château de Vizille and its park.
Vizille is 16 km from Grenoble, on the road to the Oisans resorts. The park is in the heart of the city, with several car parks nearby.
A little bit of History... You certainly remember the Salle du Jeu de Paume and the beginning of the French Revolution? Well, it's here at Château de Vizille that it all started. The owner had lent the Salle du Jeu de Palumes to the Etats Généraux du Dauphiné, prohibited from meeting in Grenoble. This event is considered to be the beginnings of the French Revolution. So much for history!
The Hall of the Game of Palms no longer exists, but it is materialized by gardens. The castle also houses the Museum of the French Revolution.
The gardens are immense, you can walk around them and enjoy its shaded alleys and the little brook that makes the tour (account for a good hour). At the end of the park there are a few animals: sheep, peacocks and deer that can be seen climbing up a lookout. Finally, observe them... Let's say that we weren't so lucky and that we especially saw woods moving in the distance in tall grass.
There is also a playground for the children, and pony rides, in short; enough to delight the whole family! A great place to picnic, observe the animals, take pictures, take a break or revisit the history of France.
The park and the museum of Vizille are open every day except Tuesday, and rare enough to be emphasized: they are completely free!
Let's break up with some pictures:
