Question: Why Alaska?

Answer: It is the perfect peaceful escape.

Alaska is one of those states in the U.S. that seem so far removed from the rest of the country. Most people I know who have ventured out there were on cruise excursions. My friends (including @ucsdsu and @halcyondaze) and I recently took a trip, and it's safe to say the experience blew us away. A few reasons why:

  1. The Scenery: from the vibrant sunsets to the bluest sky and clearest water...we just couldn't get enough. Our time away from big SoCal cities was the perfect escape. I savored the ability to breathe in fresh air and smiled with delight as the cool water splashed my face. The best part was having long daylight hours (sun did not set until around 10 pm) to take advantage of all Alaska has to offer.

  2. The Small Town Feel: All of the local shops and friendly faces created such a relaxing, quaint environment. It was easy to strike up a conversation with the locals over a beer at the brewery or the staff who helped us through white water rafting. The community of any place reflects the values and culture and it is always an interesting experiencing comparing one to another. In this case, we definitely had positive interactions all around giving us another reason to want to revist this beautiful state.

  3. The Endless Adventures: There is bound to be an activity for everyone when the list includes fishing, white water rafting, hiking, fruit picking, and more. My new goal in my travels is to try a new activity unique to the place I'm visiting. In this case it was white water rafting which honestly turned out to be pretty scary but at the end of the day I survived to tell the tale :p

Closing question: Where is your perfect escape?

Sort:

Going from SoCal to Alaska must feel like landing on a different planet: No air pollution, no noise pollution etc..

You nailed it. Even living in NorCal vs SoCal has been different with varying scenic escapes and temperatures. Alaska was definitely a reminder to get out of the city more.

I think best place in the world is heart.

Beautiful and unexpected...respect.

I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, the city in Alaska that I like to call the only city in Alaska. Having spent the first twenty-one years of my life here, I’ve certainly experienced my fair share of both merits and demerits to living in the penultimate state added to America.

While living in Anchorage definitely means a different lifestyle than living in the more rural areas of the wilderness, here are the perks and drawbacks I’ve come to know after living my entire life in the Last Frontier state.

Thank you for your valuable input. Definitely sounds like you've lived a unique experience. Do you prefer Alaskan city life, rural life, or equally enjoy both? Of the places we stayed, Homer was very special for me.

I am always interested in southern states of the US such as Florida, but after I have watched your video, I think that I must visit and enjoy Alaska.

Yes yes yes! I am originally from the south (Texas) and it will always hold a special place in my heart, but there's just something incredibly striking about the peacefulness and scenic landscapes I haven't found anywhere else.

Hello, great jobs for the post here. Keep it up fellow steemian.
I am just roaming around to make friends and to get myself indulge by the creative people posts also get myself inspired.
By the way, i am jude from the island of borneo, you can plan to climb our highest mountain in the southeast asia the Mount Kinabalu =).
And i am following u, please create more post because its inspire me. You can check me but my content is just plain simple (most of it is only resteem, so far i just posted 3 posts)

Much appreciated @judejulius! Your positivity is uplifting. Keep up the posts because they are still informative! I'm actually planning a trip to Malaysia soon and enjoyed reading about the durians. Trying to plan out exactly where to go. So far: Sipadan, Penang, KL, Cameron Highlands - any suggestions would be welcome thank you!

Okay here's my lengthy suggestion. Brace yourself.

If you into city environment, you can go to KL because it is an urban area which you can find conveniences like public transport, hotels, restaurants and mall our signature building (twin towers, kl towers),plenty of places to go in KL like zoo negara, aquaria klcc a little bit further from the town will be our own popular genting highland casino and there were theme park under construction(an upgrade version of the old one) which expected to be fully operate 2019 however, the indoor activities are open and there also a popular casino. Do check that out on google.

Cameroon highlands will be much of mountaineous and range area, it is quite rural it is about 3 hours drive from KL. The beauty of that place are the tea plantations. The sight is magnificient. This place used to be much colder back then, but i think our world is changing however for us it is still cold on its lowest temperature. Homestay, hotel are abundance there, you go hiking some of the popular trails there just to get feeling in the tropical forest. Similar to this Cameroon Highlands is Kundasang Sabah. It is located on the borneo island which requires you to 2hrs 45minutes fly from KL. And it is also the foot of our highest mountain Mount Kinabalu (need to book much earlier as this is a world attraction if you plan to climb ). Kundasang also host a hotspring, rabbit village, fish spa and also tea plantation (cameroon tea plantation looks better ).

Speaking of Sabah (one of the state which located on the north Borneo Island), it is also the host of Sipadan. Sabah have a lot of beautiful island arguably better than Krabi Thailand. You may check Mataking resort, Bohey Dulang and many more. If you love beaches you can plan to climb a mountain at Sabah and relaxing at its beaches.

For Penang, it is an island also a state in Malaysia. A combination of beaches area, suburban area. You may check this following hot spots, Batu Feringghi, bukit bendera, Komtar Tower and newly exciting place Escape Penang.

Actually there are plenty places here. Maybe next time if you need my suggestion i will help.

Sorry for such a long reply. But i hope i help you as much as I can. =) I hope if u come to Malaysia u can make videos of your trip and post it here at steem.

Oh my goodness. I am so so grateful you took the time to type all of this. Thank you thank you thank you! It only proves one trip to your beautiful country will not be enough! I am starting to research the rest of the attractions in Sabah since we will be there already for scuba diving. Will definitely keep you updated as I finalize my plans! As exciting as anticipating this trip has been, it is sad to see and hear how much climate change has affected the planet. Your comment is a good reminder to continue doing what I can to slow down/prevent further degradation.

The Steemit community seems to be especially close in Malaysia and perhaps we can all set up something (@teammalaysia)?! I sincerely appreciate your help!!!

My pleasure, yes, indeed our next generation my suffer if not doing anything about,at the very least we try our best capacity minimised the obmission of carbon.
In malaysia, we are a growing community, yes, who do you like us to set? Arrangement can be made if we know what is the request.

BTW i am still new too through this community. But all of us still learning.

I can’t stop looking at the picture of the ice cream.

Ahaha that's how I feel about all my ice-cream pictures. Ice-cream cones are just so...beautiful. BRB gonna go get one now :p

Don't be! You must see for yourself one day!

I will, if a Steemit whale upvotes me!
