Redoubt Volcano, or Mount Redoubt, is an active stratovolcano in the largely volcanic Aleutian Range of the U.S. state of Alaska, it is the highest summit in the Aleutian Range.

A series of powerful eruptions began on December 14, 1989, from Redoubt volcano. This December 18 view from the Kenai Peninsula across Cook Inlet shows a mushroom-shaped ash cloud that appears to originate from a vent on the north flank of Redoubt but is actually ash that is convecting above the surface of a pyroclastic flow that is moving down the Drift River valley to the north. Ash columns during the initial days of the eruption reached heights of about 10 km. Several episodes of strong explosive activity and lava dome growth lasted until June.

Active for millennia, Mount Redoubt has erupted four times since it was first observed: in 1902, 1966, 1989 and 2009, with two questionable eruptions in 1881 and 1933. The eruption in 1989 spewed volcanic ash to a height of 45,000 ft (14,000 m). It caught KLM Flight 867, a Boeing 747 aircraft, in its plume.

After the plane descended 13,000 feet, the pilots restarted the engines and landed the plane safely at Anchorage. The ash blanketed an area of about 7,700 sq mi (20,000 km2). The 1989 eruption is also notable for being the first ever volcanic eruption to be successfully predicted by the method of long-period seismic events developed by Swiss/American volcanologist Bernard Chouet.

Its hard to keep track of all these quakes and volcanoes. But if we are aware and keep learning, over time we will begin to understand the patterns in nature, and develop preparation and response that can save lives. This is a full time job!

It is really interesting to read. The volcanoes can be highly dangerous for the local population.

Now that's a good post my man. Never have seen an active volcano personally but the fourth image from the top (mushroom cloud) is awe inspiring. Do you follow the activity if this volcano?
If you do then I think you can make running series of it. I think it would be great.

i like photos. spectacular sight

Really great article, well done, my dear friend

Wow... nice art, amazing post..
