FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION, I CALL IT RESERVED SUCCESS

in #wafrica6 years ago (edited)

In my 300 level in the University, I indicated interest to run for an office, representing the good people of my faculty in the Student Union Government.
Prior to this time, I had served in other positions in my faculty beginning from my 100 level. Two people came out from my level to contest for the position, myself and a guy. As a good friend, he stepped down for me as only one person was eligible to stand for the election in my department. Since it was a faculty election, other departments had to be taken into consideration. Finally, three people emerged for the elections from each department in my faculty; two females and a male.
My department's population was the largest in the faculty so it was concluded that we cannot lose. My stakeholders chairman was also from my department, he assured me of victory. Infact, I was told that the election was a win win for me as I was the most popular candidate.
I heard things like:
"Mama, no worry, you are a winner already"
"The only woman wey BAMSSA get
"After you na you"
"Everything is in place, just keep drinks for the boys to celebrate your victory"
The level of confidence in me as increased to 90%. But the kind of shock that met my arrival at the voting ground was beyond words. My leaders had suggested that the girl be voted for first since her department was the least in population, that my own was sure. With the hope that year one students from my department would turn up as they were the majority, that was to be my leverage, but they did not turn up as expected.
When one of my friends saw that end might not work in my favour, he suggested that we took a stroll, as he wanted me to be in a relaxed mood to hear the results when it was announced. I stubbornly refused to leave the environment, weakness was not part of the game.
The results were finally announced and I lost by 2 votes. My leaders regretted their actions because they taught that it would favour both females, not the male. The most popular candidate lost out .
They played me "nkakad" sha
I could not cry there, but I was bitter because I trusted the wrong people. I cried my eyes out at home. Thank God for my parents, my sister even called the guy and threatened him .
But after the experience, I became stronger, wiser, smarter. That loss made me ashamed of failure. Experience is really a teacher.
In every step you take, do not count your eggs before they are hatched. Show people all the love you can but trust no one. Do all you can by yourself, no one knows your vision better than you do.
Failure is a phase, it will pass!
What matters most are the lessons you learnt from that phase!
Meanwhile, my stakeholders chairman that year might read this post... You are forgiven, we will meet again on the field someday in the near future, God willing image

My brother that is what we see!
It's part of the experience one gets in life.
I believe that standing an election in school opens us to the real world.

Despite my strength and heartened mindset, when I lost my faculty elections, I shed tears why?

I thought of how the election was run, thought of how students, I mean students brought up and developed propaganda against me for just tertiary institutional elections.

It was only then I knew man was the architect of evil and also started the saying that,

man makes man evil!

I had all means to strike back at my opponent when he won the elections because he wasn't pure, but I applied sense, wisdom and pity in politics, something others don't.

The Aluta spirit lives on...
It brightens our part...
