Tulip fields in Holland

in #walkwithme5 years ago

Each year we spend the Easter holiday with our family either in Slovakia or in The Netherlands. This year we went to Holland and I think it was the first time that it wasn't raining during our visit in April, so we tried to make the best out of this amazing weather.

It has been my dream to visit tulip fields ever since I heard about them. You can only visit them in April or May and I haven't got a chance to go there before as it was always raining when I visited Holland during these months. But it was different this time and I couldn't miss my chance!

After a short search we decided to go to Flevoland as there you can find one of the Netherlands’ largest open tulip fields. Depending on the route, the tulip fields are accessible on foot, by bicycle or by car.

I would recommend to walk, or use the bike because it allows you to reach the beautiful places that are not accessible by car and let's be honest, Holland is flat so you can even leave your Alpine trekking gear at home and just walk in flip flops 😊

We arrived to the farm 30 minutes too early as we didn't know that there were certain opening times. It was however no issue for the owner and she opened the shop for us so that we could get more information about the place. You can purchase various local products there or you can also sit on the terrace and enjoy the views of her colorful garden.

She was very friendly and offered us a cup of coffee before we sat together and went through the leaflet. She also told us about the farms' history and the work they do. We had a great time with her but it was time for us to go and see those fields..

We chose a route that was about 10 km long and started to walk..

At the beginning the path led us through a green area. We walked and walked and walked but tulips were nowhere to see. I truly expected to see large fields just behind the corner..

When you can't see the end of the path.. BTW: After a few kilometers there were still no tulips!

After a short while a large tulip field appeared right in front of us and I was happy again 😊

You can get very close to the tulips but you should not enter the fields..

And here are some impressions of the colorful tulip ocean..

Back at the farm I also took a few shots of her beautiful garden...

I didn't see this fly landing on the tulip when I took the photo. It gave me a good laugh back home when I saw it 😊

We ordered a cup of tea and sat on the terrace for a while before we got back to the car and drove home.

It was a long but beautiful walk and I would recommend it to anyone. It took us almost 3 hours to complete because we stopped very often to take photos but it can easily be done much quicker 😊

I hope you have enjoyed our trip to the tulips paradise.

Thank you for reading!

Cheers,
Martina

It indeed is kind of a therapy. Definitely for your eyes :) Do you have something similar in Romania? Maybe not tulips but different flowers?

ohhh wow... that is a beautiful set of pics... Those flowers are amazing... You always have interesting variety of things to share in your blog Martina! I love your tastes!

Thank you Dave! I just post things that happen to me :) but you know that I like to hear that you like them :) You are such a charmer!

Oh My!!!! 😍 What an incredible experience Martina!! You have captured them beautifully too - It looks like you can’t help but smile to walk these paths so I think would be great therapy for people! The smell must be amazing!!! Great post and Happy belated Easter to you! Xxxxx

It was indeed amazing! To be honest I didn't really know what to expect as I've never checked any photos online. I just thought it would be a great experience to see them :) And it definitely was!

I could spend there easily all day but we had some plans in the afternoon so couldn't stay longer. But next year I hope to visit another province with tulips and compare them :)

Well, I'm not so sure about the smell. I don't remember I could smell them :) It was very windy as it's close to the sea so this might be the reason..

Happy belated Easter to you too! And thank you for stopping by my dear!

What a nice place to visit! and terrific photography too!
The Dutch Princess fled to Canada during the war and to say thank
you she sends thousands of tulips here every year. So the Capital Ottawa is full of tulips, apparently a million bloom every year.

Really? I had no idea! I will ask my husband if he heard about this story before :)

Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words!

Yes, it's true. He has probably heard about it.

Howdy Martina! oh my gosh those fields are absolutely stunning! Breath-taking even. It looked like you were in the fields, did you break the rules because no one was around? lol. These are some of the most gorgeous pictures ever taken!

No, no, I didn't go into the fields. I appreciate the work of others and don't break the rules that could have a negative impact on the result of their work - meaning if I could damage a tulip :)

I just go close and made it look like I was there :D It's not that difficult..

Thank you so much! You are a little bit exaggerating like usually but it doesn't matter, lol :D

Howdy Martina! me exaggerate? I beg your pardon! I was being very factual. And truthful. I swear. lol.
I'm serious. The only thing I was not serious about was the part about breaking the rules because I knew you wouldn't actually do that! lol. It was your nice camera and photography skills which made it look like you were in those fabulous fields. The whole post is a thing of beauty.

You exaggerate? ALWAYS! :) Is it I beg YOUR pardon? I always thought it was I beg YOU pardon :D LOL! I anyway don't know how to translate it to Slovak as we don't use a phrase like this so this could be a reason why I always thought that it was different...

You're such a charmer today! :)

lol! you may be right. as always! lol.

However, I think I am right about the great photos and camera skill and you have posted many many stunningly beautiful posts to back up my point! Now, you have to agree with that! lol.

How awesome i would have been there all day taking photos you would have not got me out of there just stunning photos very well captured :)

Hahaha, that was my plan too but we had something else in the afternoon so couldn't stay there all day but believe me I can imagine to walk around much longer :)

Thank you for stopping by! :)

I have been to a few international flower expos and i know what you mean i love photographing flowers...Cheers have a good one :)

Hehe thanks to you I’m able to see more of my own country than the scenery around my house😎👍

Was the track also walkable outside the opening hours?

And thanks to you I got an idea for my girlfriend she loves tulips! need to bring her next year here during sunrise or sunset. Never thought about that actually😅

Did you enjoy the family time?

Oh, I'm sure that you'll feel much better in no time Remy and you'll be able to go out more often :)

Yes, you can walk there anytime. But the shop/farmhouse is only open during certain times (from 10AM until 5PM - I think)

You can still bring her there this year. The track is open until 5th of May so you have a lot of time - if the weather permits you to go there :) I'm sure she would love it. It's impressive.

Oh yes, we have a little niece and spent a lot of time with her. It was a lot of fun! We also went to Heusden with the family and had a dinner together at my brother's in law place. It was a lovely long weekend!

I'll let you know when I'll be going there next time ;)

O yeah! This makes me proud of my own country. It's a good thing you didn't step into the fields although it is very tempting for taking photos. Remy has to be quick because of the hot winter we had this season will be over soon. Maybe we can go together next year and ask for an exclusive photographing trip 😉

You should definitely be proud. There are so many lovely places in Holland :)

I know, but those farmers work so hard that I didn't have the heart to step in the field :) I don't like to destroy work of others. And I saw in TV that plenty of tulips got damaged because of tourists stepping in the fields to get the best selfies. This should not happen..

If you two go together then I'm sure the photos that you will deliver will be exceptional :)

Beautiful photos of the tulip fieds! The ones with the leading lines coming to a point on the horizon are especially nice. Those would be amazing to see someday.

I hope that you'll get to see something like that :) It is indeed amazing!

Thank you for stopping by!

That is a massssssive field! Is 10km the lonest route? Or is the entire field even bigger?

No, no, the field is not that big. There were actually 3 fields on the way plus some greenery. I would say that the size of the field depends on the farmer but some of them were definitely 500 m long.. Impressive! :)

What a beautiful shot this is. They look all amazing

Thank you for stopping by!
