OLD ICE POND
Old Ice Pond at Quogue Wildlife Refuse.
The pond was once used to cut blocks of ice out of in the winter. These blocks were stored in underground cellars which lasted through the warm weather. The ice kept fresh local produce.
The Pond is just a small part pf the 300 acre preserve.

Did you actually take this, or found it on the web?
I found it in my camera.
Interesting background @manorvillemike; familiar with so-called "ice houses" from the 1800's because my Human works in a basement that's a converted ice house... but always wondered where they got the "big blocks of ice" that turned such places into a giant refrigerator. And we don't have frozen ponds here, even in the winter, unless you get above 5000 feet.
Looks like a peaceful place to visit.
=^..^=
