How to Become Wealthy
Wealth. We are all familiar with this term, right? We’ve all met people that we suspected are wealthy, we’ve seen the phrase touted by
Wall Street on tv, and some of us may have even read books on wealth. But what does wealth really mean?
Merriam-Webster defines wealth as: “an abundant supply of valuable material possessions or resources.” But when you look at the derivation of the word, it actually comes from the Western Germanic word “welon” which means “well-being” which is defined as “the state of being happy, healthy, or prosperous.”
As you’ve seen by now, this true root definition is very different from what our culture has defined wealth to be. I think we can all relate to desiring the state of being happy, healthy, and prosperous, right?
In reality, wealth does not have a set definition. Happy, healthy, and prosperous can mean something very different for me than it does for you and it can relate to a totally different dynamic of my life than it does for yours.
So what does it mean for you? When you hear the word wealth, what dynamic of your life comes to mind first? Is it your job? Your business? Your finances? Maybe it’s something totally different like relationships or your spiritual life. True wealth means, by definition is that all of those areas in your life are healthy and prosperous.
What would life look like if you could give a perfect score to your spiritual, personal, physical, relational, job & business, and financial areas of your life? You might be thinking, “That’s impossible!”. But what if it’s possible? What if someone told you that all it took was the right things prioritized wisely, time invested wisely, and money expended & expanded wisely?
We have a tendency in this life to downplay the importance of things that are simple. We wake up and sometimes we let our day happen to us and we lose track of time. We earn income yet we let our expenditures happen to us and we don’t control our money. Life ends up feeling more like a conveyer belt going at a dull, monotonous pace. Soon, we end up having in front of us whatever is served by the giant conveyer belt called life.
Have you ever felt like this? It feels almost robotic, doesn’t it? This is referred to as “living life by default” as opposed to “living life by design”. Living life by design means living with intention and on purpose. It doesn’t mean we win every time but it does mean we play this game called life with focus.
You see, the wealthy champions of a healthy prosperous life simply win more than they lose. Except for God, nobody has a perfect record and because of that, we are off the hook of pursuing perfection and are free to pursue progress.
So I challenge you right now, make progress! Think about the areas in your life that need the most help and focus. What is the one thing you can do in that area, such that by doing it daily you can experience a wealthy life?
A wealthy life takes commitment. A commitment of time and money. If you would like assistance in making a serious commitment to your finances so that you can live life by design rather than default, we are more than happy to help! It’s just what we do!
