Hidden in the trees are the little house wrens, I can hear them chattering to their brood. I smell the freshness of the soil in the garden and notice the little garden snake slithering through the old birdbath. I owe it to him to clean the leaves out of it and give it a little water.
Shine your beautiful day upon my face.
You are so beautiful, my lovely
Each and every day
Like the sun rising after the dawn
You are so beautiful
These leaves are like ferns that have bloomed into a jubilant green sea, covering the branch in a straightforward pattern.
It was really a wonderful walk. Once I stopped fooling around, I ran (little) and walked much, covering a six-mile range. I crossed paths with over 35 people, all of whom kept the proper social distance. Good job, people. This will be our new normal for a while. And yes, I wear a mask. A very cute one. All the dog lovers like it.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?
i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.
later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,
"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"
