This is similar to the Western Valentine day. Sad story that the couple can only meet once a year...that's what I know from my grandmother.

Yeah.. I had to look the story up when I first heard of the TegoMasu song called "Tanabata Matsuri"... I really like that song, so I searched for the story and after finding out about it, I learned to like it even more. <3
We celebrate this in Japan too!
