STEEMIT is a reputation economy

in #whales10 years ago (edited)

I cannot begin to explain how I enjoy this new Social Media Platform, but I am sure most of us, took some time to carefully consider before we wrote our first post, then thought even more before submitting our post :)
Why?

Because we are emotionally invested in what we share!

STEEMIT is a reputation economy - You will be rewarded after you build a reputation ... even if it takes time. Most of us in life has learnt that we only have one reputation … It is very difficult if not close to impossible to rebuild a damaged reputation. In STEEMIT's case, you should build your reputation, gain followers from where I hope that we can all shout :

SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!

Social Media networks makes it as easy as possible to share everything, to ensure as it is a purely about building the functionality for us to use. Steemit for example makes it very easy for us to write a full blog publication…

We all however care a lot about what we post, and according to the Wave 8.0 study, we care even more about how things are shared with others. In STEEMIT's case how people Upvote our posts… I think we all know why :)

When the social media study Wave 8 asked people how they happy people felt when people comment about something they have shared on various Social Media Platforms, it became clear that users of Social Media Platforms want recognition of some sort.

The image below shows the responses from various participants.

Around the world people is looking for some kind of recognition.

At the end of the day it looks like a lot of the younger generation is looking to become famous online

So let us wait and see, who will be the first

Arguably so, yeah, but you are not mentioning how this reputation is generated in the first place. In many ways I would argue that Steemit - with the exception of early adopters or heavy investors - is an economy based on hard work, dedication and a willingness to engage oneself in the community. It sounds idealistic and perhaps a bit strange, but the only way one will obtain a reputation is through solid comments, votes and posts which all require a keen understanding of the community and hard work to produce posts. On the other hand, one could argue that you rely on votes from those with reputation in order to really break through, but reaching that point requires the former as well.

@joachim thanks for the reply, and yes you are correct. It is very difficult to build a reputation on steemit, and you are also correct about the early adopters and investors. One of my colleagues is an early adopter and are earning at minimum around $600 for each post, but he has already posted at least 40-50 times. I am hoping that through posting regularly and not posting garbage, one can build a following. I hope the follow button starts working soon. I just followed you by the way ... I also believe the new changes coming in Fork 11 will help us all and make a difference in the reputation building process

It's too early to say if hard work pays off here.
Right now it seems you need to be very lucky by posting on the right topic at the right time with the moon in perfect alignment to get a post to pay off. We will have to see how it evolves though.
Right now it is still very much an experiment so hopefully this will improve with time and hard work will pay off when the platform is mature.

I have seen more and more people mentioning @berniesanders . Agree with you !:)

Excellent post :) I agree let's wait and see :)
