White is White Challenge - Wednesday Flowers - Dandelion Puff Ball

For my entry today into the whiteiswhite challenge, I am sharing a photo that I took last weekend while doing some weeding in my yard. With the warm and sunny spring weather also comes the annual invasion of dandelions and weeds attempt to take over the lawn! I personally don't mind a few dandelions here or there in their yellow form, but when they appear by the dozens on my lawn, I am not a big fan. This is one of the dandelions that I was removing from the lawn; I normally try my best to remove them while they are still in their flowery form, but I caught this one a bit late once it had taken on its "puff ball" form.

For those who are unaware, dandelions normally take on a pretty yellow flower form. As they are pollenated by insects like bees, however, they transition into their puff ball form. These puff balls consist of many individual seeds that are attached to the fluffy white portions that can be seen in this photo. As wind comes along, it sweeps these seeds up into the sky and spreads them around the environment, eventually settling down and growing into a new dandelion plant. And so the cycle continues...
