Wisdom and insight of Jesus: And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. Matthew 5:40

According to the Gospel of Saint Matthew, Jesus, after announcing the Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount, continued with the explanation of what this new Kingdom destined to change the world consists of, the dominion or empire of the divine excellencies: "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" Matthew 5:48.
And Jesus, besides teaching the righteous life with the golden rule in Matthew 7:12, also taught the opposite; he taught with wisdom and insight about some heresies (teachings of the error), that lead men away from the path of mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) and perseverance, such as the ancient law of retaliation: "Eye for Eye, and tooth for tooth" Matthew 5:38. Jesus used this law of the babilonyan empire, the code of Hammurabi, to explain the danger of heresies, because the law of retaliation, although it seems like a very basic form of justice, is actually a form of revenge disguised as justice. The heresy of the law of retaliation in Jesus' teaching is a law that, in reality, promotes fear and oppression.
This is why Jesus went further and explained what the attitude of those who enter the Kingdom of God should be, and so he said with these beautiful words: "But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well" Matthew 5:39-40.
Jesus wanted to teach that one evil cannot be repaid with another, which is exactly what the law of retaliation proposes. The divine teacher taught that the response to evil must be mercy, righteousness, and perseverance. With this, Jesus did not mean that we should be excessively generous with the enemy, but rather that we should flatly reject heresies, because when heresies are imposed as truths, that is where suffering and oppression are also imposed. The Kingdom of God is therefore more than a philosophy but also a change of mentality; human destructiveness cannot be justified by laws or decrees; the Kingdom of God is therefore a turn towards the most excellent good of man, the eternal or contemplative life.
