God is wise: He provides help and protection for those who are righteous and honest. Proverbs 2:7
The Book of Proverbs, before teaching its famous practical sayings for everyday life, presents a long monologue on the science of God, the divine wisdom; and in this monologue, the exhortations of a teacher to his students are exchanged with a personified wisdom that explains the path of righteousness. The Book of Proverbs is, for all these reasons, a typical book of the sapiential literature. And the sapiential literature does not contradict the other books of the Bible, because like the law of Moses with its commandments, the sapiential literature explains to the bible readers that everything begins with the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion).
And in his long monologue, the master of wisdom taught that God is wise and protects those who fear him and are upright like the Psalm 1, the Psalm of the two ways, and the master of wisdom expressed this spiritual truth with these words: "He provides help and protection for those who are righteous and honest" Proverbs 2:7. The author of the Book of Proverbs exhorted men to live in the fear of God, and to seek righteousness above all things in every act of life; because these gifts are valued by God, and with them comes the full fulfillment of the law. What good is a deep intellectual knowledge of the law if one does not have the common sense that comes from the fear of God to put it into practice?
God protects those who choose the correct path, insists the Book of Proverbs. Like when David faced Goliath in combat, and like when King Hezekiah, advised by the prophet Isaiah, defeated the tyrant of the Assyrian Empire, Sennacherib. Righteousness, fear of God, and wisdom are gifts that, first and foremost, allow one to perceive the nature of problems more clearly, and not only that, but they also enable communion with that wisdom that orders and builds the universe itself. Those who live righteously are rarely overcome by problems, however enormous they may be, and Job also testified to this spiritual truth in his book, who after many misfortunes, was blessed from on high. Ultimately, those who choose the path of righteousness are blessed, and for this reason, they are truly intelligent.
