Hi Friends,

I was given a faux Wooden Nickel the other day by a business salesman, which I thought was pretty clever, as it has their business information on the back.

I found an interesting article online which goes in to the history of the Wooden Nickel as used in the United States of America: https://www.thebillfold.com/2015/03/the-history-of-the-wooden-nickel/

The story goes that the Wooden Nickels are were once a leal-ish tender in the country during the Great Depression as there were coin shortages and merchants would issue these wooden nickels that you could later redeem for items.

The original Wooden Nickel was a spin off from the famous Buffalo nickel, featuring the American Bison the one side of the coin, and famous bust of the Native American on the other side. The Wooden Nickel is now extinct as a form of currency, but still famous in pop culture and for collectors.

My novelty Wooden Nickel isn’t worth anything, but at least it reminds me of history.

Thanks for coming by,

Brian
