Is Truthster a Word?

in #words8 years ago

My mother has dementia. I tell you this so you will understand why I can't ask her the question I'm about to ask you. She told me at dinner last night that I am truthster. Her caregiver told me that is someone who always tells the truth. I cannot find this word in the dictionary. However, I have noticed that there are a few people on the Internet who are using it. Has anyone here ever heard of this word? I am thinking that it's either an archaic word that has fallen out of use, or a word that people have started to use, but has not entered the dictionary yet. At first I thought it was a word that my mother just made up, but I have actually found it in a few places on the Internet.

If it's not a word yet, I think it would be really cool if we all started using it. Maybe if we all started using this word, maybe one day it will actually enter the dictionary.

The word "Truthster" does indeed have a common use and clear meaning, just as you described. I think it is kind of archaic in the sense its a saying that's often used by older Americans.

Thanks for your reply. I find it interesting that it does not appear in my Webster's collegiate dictionary. I guess the decision must have been made that it is so out of use that it's no longer considered an official word. That's too bad. I think it's a good word. We could certainly use more "Truthsters" these days.

To the question in your title, my Magic 8-Ball says:

Do not count on it
