Beyond Humor.
Beyond Humor.
Humor is something we often overlook in the flow of time, and what seemed funny today can turn out to be very serious, even very meaningful.
You know, if someone had told me a few years ago that I would seriously consider farming, and especially that I would view livestock not as something to be stored in one or more pieces in my freezer, but as something I wanted to see grow, something I wanted to spend my time and money on, I would have laughed along with the joker, and if they had been very persistent, I would have suggested they continue on their way, or in the direction they were headed.
But something has changed.
I'm primarily interested in the care and breeding of sheep and goats, but I'll tell you a secret: sometimes I also ponder the issue of cattle breeding, but that still seems like a distant dream.
Although, my great-grandmother had cows, and one of them was very fertile, even too much so, as she would stand with her horns in the doorway of the house and only let my great-grandmother out when she gave her a piece of rye bread.
After that, the cow would go to pasture on her own, and in the evening she would return home on her own.
During this time, the cow was most likely milked and given water to drink, or maybe not. There were plenty of lakes around Altai where the cow could drink, I don't know for sure.
The choice is very difficult, even if I decide to have sheep, or goats, or maybe both. They have different personalities, different illnesses. Sheep are more stable than goats, but goats require close monitoring.
Goats are more fertile than sheep and produce more milk. I really love goat and sheep cheese.
But sheep also have their advantages: rotisserie lamb is much tastier than goat meat, and goats have almost no fat.
Sheepskins are warmer and more durable, but something tells me goats might win this competition and make the joke come true.
